The Taiwan Question and China's Reunification in the New Era () is a white paper published by the Taiwan Affairs Office and State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China (PRC). It is the first white paper concerning Taiwan published since 2000 and was released a few days after Nancy Pelosi’s 2022 visit to Taiwan. In it, the PRC urged for Taiwan to reunify with it under the "one country, two systems" principle. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council said the document was "wishful thinking and disregarding facts”. Taiwan Affairs Office
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council is an administrative agency under the State Council of Mainland China. It is responsible for setting and implementing guidelines and policies related to the Republic of China (Taiwan), as stipulated by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council itself. State Council Information Office
The State Council Information Office (SCIO; ) is the chief information office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In 2014, SCIO was absorbed into the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). History The SCIO was formed in 1991 when the CCP Central Committee made the External Propaganda Leading Group of the Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party its own office. 2022 Visit By Nancy Pelosi To Taiwan
United States politician Nancy Pelosi, while serving as the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, visited Taiwan ( officially the Republic of China) on August 2, 2022. A delegation of five Democratic Party members of the House accompanied Pelosi on the visit. One Country, Two Systems
"One country, two systems" is a constitutional principle of the People's Republic of China (PRC) describing the governance of the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau. The constitutional principle was formulated in the early 1980s during negotiations over Hong Kong between China and the United Kingdom. It provided that there would be only one China, but that these regions could retain their own economic and administrative systems, while the rest of Mainland China uses the socialism with Chinese characteristics system. Under the principle, each of the two regions could continue to have its own governmental system, legal, economic and financial affairs, including trade relations with foreign countries, all of which are independent from those of the Mainland. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) is a cabinet-level administrative agency under the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China in Taiwan. The MAC is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the cross-strait relations policy which targets mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. The MAC's counterpart body in the People's Republic of China is the Taiwan Affairs Office.
