The Spies (TV Series)
''The Spies'' is a British television series produced by the BBC in 1966. The main stars were Dinsdale Landen as counter espionage agent Richard Cadell; Simon Oates as agent Anthony Kelly; and Peter Arne as Russian agent Copic. A spin-off or rebranding of the previous 1965 series '' The Mask of Janus'', ''The Spies'' was a more conventional espionage thriller series than its predecessor, being more explicitly concerned with the actual operations of British secret service agents stationed in the fictional European country Amalia. The series can be viewed as being a BBC attempt to match the popularity of the ITV action show ''Danger Man''. Terence Dudley
Terence Dudley (28 September 1919 – 25 December 1988) was a British television director, producer and screenwriter who worked on many programmes for the BBC. Dudley produced the BBC science fiction series '' Doomwatch'' (1970–1972), and directed three of its episodes. He subsequently produced the series '' Survivors'' (1975–1977), also directing one episode, and wrote the script for the season three premiere episode, "Manhunt". His young son, Stephen, had a regular part in ''Doomwatch''. Dudley also directed eight early episodes of '' All Creatures Great and Small'', including the 1983 Christmas special. He began an association with ''Doctor Who'' when he directed '' Meglos'' (1980) for John Nathan-Turner. That same year, he was asked to become producer of ''Blake's 7'' after David Maloney was reassigned before it was known that a fourth season would be made. Danger Man
''Danger Man'' (retitled ''Secret Agent'' in the United States for the revived series, and ''Destination Danger'' and ''John Drake'' in other overseas markets) is a British television series that was broadcast between 1960 and 1962, and again between 1964 and 1968. The series featured Patrick McGoohan as secret agent John Drake (Danger Man), John Drake. Ralph Smart created the programme and wrote many of the scripts. ''Danger Man'' was financed by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment. Series development The idea for ''Danger Man'' originated with Ralph Smart, an associate of Lew Grade, head of ITC Entertainment. Grade was looking for formats that could be exported. Ian Fleming was brought in to collaborate on series development, but left before development was complete. Lost television broadcasts are television programs that were not preserved after their original airing, rendering them permanently unavailable for both public and private screening. Because of this, they are considered a form of lost media, particularly affecting television shows or films that aired before the widespread use of home video recording and digital archiving. A significant portion of early television programming was never recorded, largely because recording equipment was unavailable or the content was considered to have little monetary or historical value. Dinsdale James Landen (4 September 1932 – 29 December 2003) was an English actor. His television appearances included starring in the shows ''Devenish'' (1977) and ''Pig in the Middle'' (1980). ''The Independent'' named him an "outstanding actor with the qualities of a true farceur". He performed in many Shakespeare plays at Stratford-upon-Avon and Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Early life Landen was born at Margate, Kent and educated at King's School, Rochester. Career Landen made his television debut in 1959 as the adult Pip in an adaptation of ''Great Expectations'' and made his film debut in 1960, with a walk-on part in ''The League of Gentlemen''.
