The Singing Bee (Australian Game Show)
''The Singing Bee'' is an Australian game show which is based on the original The Singing Bee (American game show), American version of the same name. By combining karaoke singing with a spelling bee-style competition, contestants have to sing lyrics to songs without making a mistake or risk elimination. The show premiered on Sunday 7 October 2007 on the Nine Network, which ordered the production of an initial eight episodes. It was filmed at the Nine Network's GTV (Australia), GTV-9 studios at Richmond, Victoria. ''The Singing Bee'' followed the basic rules of the American version of the show but some rule changes have been made for the Australian version. On 22 March 2008, it was announced by the Nine Network that ''The Singing Bee'' would return for a second season, with filming set to take place after the 2008 Logies. GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. GTV-9 is the home of the Australian Open tennis coverage. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. ''Temptation'' was an Australian game show which premiered on the Nine Network on 30 May 2005 and aired at 7.00pm (5.30pm for most regionals). Hosted by Ed Phillips and Livinia Nixon, the show was a remake of ''Sale of the Century'', which aired on Nine in the same timeslot for more than twenty years between 1980 and 2001. ''Temptation'' had the same general format of its predecessor, but with several new features and a de-emphasis on the "shopping" aspects of the endgame. "The Final Countdown" is a song by the Swedish rock band Europe, released in 1986. Written by their lead singer Joey Tempest, it was based on a keyboard riff he made in the early 1980s, with lyrics inspired by David Bowie's " Space Oddity".
