''The Penguin'' is an American crime drama television miniseries developed by Lauren LeFranc for HBO. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, it serves as a spin-off from the 2022 film '' The Batman'', and follows Oz Cobb's rise to power in Gotham City's criminal underworld. Lauren LeFranc is an American television writer, producer and showrunner known for her work on ''The Penguin'' (2024), a spin-off series set in the universe of Matt Reeves' film '' The Batman'' (2022). Michael Zegen (born February 20, 1979) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in the television series '' Rescue Me'' (2004–2011), ''Boardwalk Empire'' (2011–2014), and '' The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'' (2017–2023).
