Boney M
Boney M. is a German reggae, funk and disco music group founded in 1974. It achieved popularity during the disco era in the second half of the 1970s. The band was created by German record producer Frank Farian, who was the group's primary songwriter and singer. Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the band's official line-up were Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett from Jamaica, Maizie Williams from Montserrat, and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. ''Nightflight to Venus'' is the third studio album by Euro-Caribbean group Boney M., and was released in June 1978. The album became a major success in continental Europe, Scandinavia, and Canada, topping most of the album charts during the second half of 1978 and also became their first UK number one album. In Canada, it received a nomination for a 1980 Juno Award in a category 'International Album of the Year'. ''Nightflight to Venus'' includes the worldwide hits "Rivers of Babylon" and " Brown Girl in the Ring", a double A-sided single that topped the UK singles chart and has sold over 2 million copies there. The Smoke (English Band)
The Smoke were an English psychedelic pop group from York. They consisted of Mick Rowley (lead vocals), Mal Luker (lead guitar), John "Zeke" Lund (bass) and Geoff Gill (drums and compositor). The band originally performed around Yorkshire as The Moonshots, changing their name to The Shots when they moved to London. There were two bands playing R&B and other cover versions, one called Tony Adams and the Viceroys, which included John 'Zeke' Lund on bass, Mal Luker on lead guitar and Geoff Gill on drums. It was the first single of their second album '' Love for Sale'' and their third consecutive chart-topper in (West) Germany.
