The Lion's Busy
''The Lion's Busy'' is a 1948 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon written by Tedd Pierce and directed by Friz Freleng. It features Leo the Lion (who had previously appeared in '' Hold the Lion, Please'') and Beaky Buzzard (who had previously appeared in ''Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid'' and '' The Bashful Buzzard''), both voiced by Mel Blanc. This cartoon is the first time Blanc voices Beaky due to Kent Rogers' death in 1944, and the final appearance of Leo the Lion from Looney Tunes cartoons until ''Tweety's High-Flying Adventure'' in 2000. It is also Beaky's only appearance in which he is smarter than his opponent rather than dumber. Plot Leo the Lion (who now speaks with an Irish accent in this cartoon), on his tenth birthday, receives a book as a present, and after finding out that lions rarely live beyond ten years, a hungry Beaky Buzzard, who turns out to be the one who had sent the book to him in the first place, takes the chance to eat him for his meal. Friz Freleng
Isadore "Friz" Freleng (August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, director, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), and Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners' Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors, having won five Academy Awards and three Emmy Awards. The Bashful Buzzard
''The Bashful Buzzard'' is a 7-minute animated cartoon completed in 1944 and released on September 15, 1945. It is directed by Robert Clampett and is the second to feature the character Beaky Buzzard. This is the last cartoon in which Kent Rogers performed voices, as he died in a training flight accident on July 9, 1944. Plot Beaky Buzzard's mother sends him and his brothers out with the mission of bringing home something to eat. While his brothers wreak havoc dive-bombing various creatures and eventually bring back a milk cow (along with the farmer), a string of circus elephants (including a baby one brandishing a banner reading "I am NOT Dumbo", a reference to the Disney film of the same name), and a dog (clinging to a fire hydrant), Beaky manages only to capture a baby bumble bee.
