The Howlin' Wolf is a 1,200 person capacity music venue located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Howlin' Wolf Den, adjoined to The Howlin' Wolf is a 120-person capacity performance space. The venues are used for concerts, comedy shows, events and private parties. History The Howlin’ Wolf opened in 1988 and is named after the legendary bluesman Chester "Howlin' Wolf" Burnett. The original Howlin' Wolf opened in the Fat City section of Metairie, Louisiana, founded by brothers Jack and Jeff Groetsch. The Howlin' Wolf moved to a cotton warehouse in the New Orleans warehouse district at 828 South Peters about 1990. The Groetsch brothers sold the business to the current owner Howie Kaplan in the Summer of 2000. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the venue relocated again to its current location in a larger space a block away, which was previously known as the New Orleans Music Hall. Howlin' Wolf
Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910January 10, 1976), better known by his stage name Howlin' Wolf, was an American blues singer and guitarist. He is regarded as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. Over a four-decade career, he recorded in genres such as blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and psychedelic rock. He also helped bridge the gap between Delta blues and Chicago blues. Born into poverty in Mississippi as one of six children, he went through a rough childhood where his mother kicked him out of her house, and he moved in with his great-uncle, who was particularly abusive. He then ran away to his father's house where he finally found a happy family, and in the early 1930s became a protégé of legendary Delta blues guitarist and singer, Charley Patton. Alphonse Gabriel Capone (; January 17, 1899 – January 25, 1947), sometimes known by the nickname "Scarface", was an American gangster and businessman who attained notoriety during the Prohibition era as the co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit. The Afghan Whigs
The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. They were active from 1986 to 2001 and have since reformed as a band. The group – with core members Greg Dulli (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick McCollum (lead guitar), and John Curley (bass) – rose up around the grunge movement, evolving from a garage band in the vein of the Replacements to incorporate more R&B and soul influences into their sound and image. After releasing their first album independently in 1988, the band signed to the Seattle-based label Sub Pop. They released their major-label debut and fourth album, '' Gentlemen'', in 1993.
