The Frenchman's Garden
''The Frenchman's Garden'' () is a 1978 Spanish rural psycho-thriller film directed by Jacinto Molina (Paul Naschy) based on the Frenchman's garden serial murder case. It stars María José Cantudo and Ágata Lys. Plot The plot deals about the crimes of Juan Aldije "el Francés" and José Muñoz Lopera in Peñaflor, province of Seville. Cast Production A Laro Films production, the film was shot in 1977 in locations including the area where the real crimes took place in. Release The film was released theatrically in Spain on 5 June 1978. The film was restored by Cultural Diversity Films and selected for screening at the 2020 Sitges Film Festival. Reception Ángel Sala described the film as "a sort of bloodstained Julio Romero de Torres painting, which satisfactorily reconstructs the period". Paul Naschy
Jacinto Molina Álvarez (September 6, 1934 – November 30, 2009) known by his stage name Paul Naschy, was a Spanish film actor, screenwriter, and director working primarily in horror films. His portrayals of numerous classic horror figures— The Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster, Count Dracula, Quasimodo, Fu Manchu and a mummy—earned him recognition as the Spanish Lon Chaney. Naschy also starred in dozens of action films, historical dramas, crime films, TV shows and documentaries. He also wrote the screenplays for most of his films and directed a number of them as well, signing many of them "Jacinto Molina". Naschy was bestowed Spain's Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 2001. Julio Romero De Torres
Julio Romero de Torres (9 November 1874 – 10 May 1930) was a Spanish painter. His brothers, Rafael and , also became painters. Biography He was the son of Rafael Romero Barros, a painter who served as Director of the Fine Arts Museum of Córdoba. When he was ten, he began his apprenticeship with his father at the School Of Fine Arts. His first known works, ''Head of an Arab'' and ''On Horseback'', date from 1889. Two years later, he was providing illustrations for the '' Diario de Córdoba. In 1895, he had his first showing at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, where he received honorable mention. Although he attempted to win a scholarship to the Spanish Academy in Rome in 1897, he was unsuccessful. The following year, his brother Rafael died, aged only thirty-three. Ángel Sala
Ángel Sala (born 1964) is the director of the Sitges Film Festival. ''A Serbian Film'' was banned by a court in San Sebastián, Spain for "threatening sexual freedom" and thus could not be shown in the XXI Semana de Cine Fantástico y de Terror (21st Horror and Fantasy Film Festival). The film was shown at an adults-only screening at the Spanish Sitges Film Festival during October 2010. As a result, the festival's director Ángel Sala was charged with exhibiting child pornography by the Spanish prosecutor who decided to take action in May 2011 after receiving a complaint from a Roman Catholic organization over a pair of scenes involving the rapes of a young child and a newborn. The charges were later dropped. Paradoxically, film was awarded in others festivals like the ''Fantasporto'' in Porto, Portugal.
