'' The Equalizer'' is an American action crime drama television series, co-created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. Originally airing on CBS, a national broadcast television network in the United States, season one premiered on and ran for 22 episodes until the season finale on . The series ran four seasons with a total of 88 episodes. "The Equalizer" is the nickname given by a colleague and friend named Brahms (played by Jerry Stiller) to the protagonist Robert McCall, who is a former U.S. intelligence operative turned freelance "security officer." The latter description was given to him by NYPD Detective Lt. Jefferson Burnett, who at first is dubious about working with a vigilante. Edward Albert Arthur Woodward (1 June 1930 – 16 November 2009) was an English actor and singer. He began his career on stage, appearing in productions in both the West End of London and on Broadway in New York City. Ron O'Neal (September 1, 1937 – January 14, 2004) was an American actor, director and screenwriter, who rose to fame in his role as Youngblood Priest, a New York City cocaine dealer, in the blaxploitation film '' Super Fly'' (1972) and its sequel '' Super Fly T.N.T.''
