The Crime Doctor's Diary
''The Crime Doctor's Diary'' is a 1949 American mystery film directed by Seymour Friedman and starring Warner Baxter, Stephen Dunne and Lois Maxwell. It is the last of the Crime Doctor series of films made by Columbia Pictures. Plot The Crime Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet. The psychiatrist/sleuth (Warner Baxter) helps a parolee (Stephen Dunne) framed for arson, now up for murder. Seymour Friedman
Seymour Friedman (August 17, 1917 – April 2, 2003) was an American film director. He later worked as a production manager in television. Friedman began his career as an assistant director, before enlisting for military service following America's entry into World War II. He directed his first film, '' Trapped by Boston Blackie'', in 1948.Blottner p.66-67 Like many of the other films he directed, it was a low-budget series film. In the early 1950s, Friedman went to Britain to make a couple of films, before returning to Hollywood. He directed his last film in 1956, and switched to working entirely in television. Adele Jergens
Adele Jergens (November 26, 1917 – November 22, 2002) was an American actress. Early life Adele Louisa Jurgens (some sources say Jurgenson) was born in Brooklyn, New York. Career Jergens rose to prominence in the late 1930s when she was named "Miss World's Fairest" at the 1939 New York World's Fair. In the early 1940s, she briefly worked as a Rockette and was named the number-one showgirl in New York City. After a few years' work as a model and chorus girl, including being an understudy to Gypsy Rose Lee in the Broadway show '' Star and Garter'' in 1942, Jergens landed a movie contract with Columbia Pictures in 1944, and dyed her brown hair blonde. Whitner Nutting Bissell (October 25, 1909 – March 5, 1996) was an American character actor. Early life Born in New York City, Bissell was the son of surgeon Dr. J. Dougal Bissell and Helen Nutting Bissell. He was educated at the Allen-Stevenson School and the Dalton School in New York City. He was related to Daniel Bissell, who was awarded the Badge of Military Merit, the predecessor of the Purple Heart, by George Washington. He trained with the Carolina Playmakers, a theatrical organization associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in drama and English.
