The Bod Squad
''The Bod Squad'' is a series of short public service announcements broadcast on Saturday mornings on the ABC television network, from 1974 through 1988. These thirty-second and one-minute segments promoted healthy nutrition and personal hygiene through humorous animation and catchy music with clever lyrics. The shorts were written by Lynn Ahrens and animated by DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. The segments generally appeared at half-hour intervals, interspersed with regular commercials, between Saturday morning cartoon programs. While many were not labeled as such, the first four segments ended with an announcement, "Another nutritional message from the ABC Television Network", and accompanying stock animation identifying the series as ''The ABC Bod Squad''. Lynn Ahrens
Lynn Ahrens (born October 1, 1948) is an American writer and lyricist for the musical theatre, television and film. She has collaborated with Stephen Flaherty for many years. She won the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award for the Broadway musical ''Ragtime''. Together with Flaherty, she has written many musicals, including '' Lucky Stiff'', '' My Favorite Year'', ''Ragtime'', '' Seussical'', '' A Man of No Importance'', '' Dessa Rose'', '' The Glorious Ones'', ''Rocky'', '' Little Dancer'' and, recently on Broadway, ''Anastasia'' and '' Once on This Island''. DePatie–Freleng Enterprises, Inc. (also known as Mirisch-Geoffrey-DePatie-Freleng Productions when involved with the Mirisch brothers and Geoffrey Productions, and DFE Films) was an American animation studio founded by former Warner Bros. Cartoons employees in May 1963, before being acquired by Marvel in 1981 and renamed Marvel Productions. Based in Burbank, California, DFE produced animation for film and television. "Saturday-morning cartoon" is a colloquial term for the original animated series and live-action programming that was typically scheduled on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the United States on the "Big Three" television networks. ''Time for Timer'' is a series of seven short public service announcements broadcast on Saturday mornings on the ABC television network starting in 1975. The animated spots feature Timer, a tiny cartoon character who is an anthropomorphic circadian rhythm, the self-proclaimed "keeper of body time." The series was produced by the cartoon studio DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. Timer first appears in the 1973 ''ABC Afterschool Special'' "The Incredible, Indelible, Magical, Physical Mystery Trip", where he was voiced by Len Maxwell. In this special, he works inside the body of a man named Uncle Carl.
