The Yale Alley Cats
The Yale Alley Cats is an undergraduate a cappella singing group at Yale University, the college's third-oldest. In the summer of 1943, four Yale undergraduate students climbed Saybrook Tower to serenade the night with Henry Carey's "Sally in Our Alley." Their singing awoke the Saybrook Head of College, who yelled at them: "Stop it! Your singing sounds like a bunch of screeching alley cats!" and sent them to bed. The performance marked the founding of the group and gave it its name. While the group’s early performances centered on jazz, their current repertoire includes pop, R&B, Motown, folk, and other genres. The group has created more than 400 a cappella arrangements. Each April, The Alley Cats hosts its "Champagne Jamboree," or "Cham Jam", an on-campus performance that customarily features a non-male guest soloist from the senior class and a dance number featuring a soloist from the first-year class (known as "kittens"). The Alley Cats (1960s Group)
The Alley Cats were a musical group active in 1960s. One of their releases saw moderate airplay and chart action. Brice Coefield and Sheridan Spencer belonged to a group named "The Untouchables" who had released unsuccessful singles for the Madison Records, Madison and Liberty Records, Liberty labels. At the end of 1962, these two joined with James Barker and Gary Pipkin, who had been with The Robins, and lead singer Bobby Sheen, who was coming off success with Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans, to form The Alley Cats, the brainchild of Lou Adler. The group was based out of Los Angeles. Lou Adler brought this combination to Philles Records, although Adler was soon to feel antagonism from Phil Spector because of this group. Their first record was their most popular: "Puddin N' Tain", a song based upon a children's playground chant, entered the charts January 1963 and achieved a chart position of 43 in the United States when released on Philles Records 45rpm #108. The Alley Cats (doo-wop Group)
The Alley Cats are an American doo-wop group singing in a cappella. The group originated in 1987, when a concert choir program was having a variety night occurring at Fullerton College. When John Tebay, the choir director, suggested that Andre Peek (1st tenor and lead vocalist at that time) and Armando Fonseca (2nd tenor) perform together, both of them decided to take Mr. Tebays advice and form a quartet, an a cappella group. Two additional members along the way, Royce Reynolds (bass) and Todd Dixon (baritone) got together and the foursome gained notice. Since then The Alley Cats have performed for many audiences, ranging from elementary school fun nights to being Grand.prize.winners on the Gong Show. Performing on the Arsenio Hall show to ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'', as well as opening for Leno at his Las Vegas shows. The Alley Cats's sound has been heard as well at The White House. The Alley Cats are a Los Angeles, California-based punk rock Trio (music)#Popular-music group/band, trio formed in 1977. The original line-up, featuring Randy Stodola (guitar and vocals), Dianne Chai (bass and vocals) and John McCarthy (drums), was a fixture of the early L.A. punk rock scene. Signed to Dangerhouse Records alongside other seminal Punk rock in California, California-based punk bands including the Bags (Los Angeles band), Bags, Black Randy and the Metro Squad, and X (U.S. band), X, they released their first single "Nothing Means Nothing Anymore" backed with "Give Me a Little Pain" on March 30, 1978. They are among the six bands featured on the 1979 compilation album ''Yes L.A.'' and appear in the 1982 film ''Urgh! A Music War''. The Alley Cats were regular performers at such Los Angeles venues as Club 88, Hong Kong Café, The Masque, and the Whisky a Go Go. Alleycats (Malaysian Rock Band)
The Alleycats is a Malaysian pop band which was formed in 1969, and gained popularity in the late 1970s. It consists of musicians from Penang who were popular in their home state earlier on in their career. History There were earlier line-ups of this band but the original line-up mentioned were the ones that took the Alleycats to great height of achievements musically. The Alleycats was always on top of the musical scene in Malaysia even before it was signed up as a recording band. This line-up secured a performance contract in the Mocambo Club situated in Central, a business sector on Hong Kong island in 1976. It was supposed to be a three-month contract but the band's success in wooing the crowd earned it three yearly contracts bundled with TV and concert appearances as means of promoting the band.
