Texas State University (TXST) is a public university, public research university with its main campus in San Marcos, Texas, United States, and another campus in Round Rock, Texas, Round Rock. Since its establishment in 1899, the university has grown to be one of the largest universities in the United States. Old Main (Texas State University)
Old Main is a red-roofed Victorian Gothic building on the campus of Texas State University. Situated at one end of the quad, it was Texas State's first building, built in 1903, and remained the only building on campus until 1908. Old Main was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1983. It currently houses the offices for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication as well as the College of Fine Arts. Design and construction Edward Northcraft designed the building for Southwest Texas State Normal College (now Texas State University) in 1902. The building was dubbed "Main" as it was the only building on the campus when it was opened for classes in the Fall of 1903. The original design included an auditorium and chapel on the second floor with an ornate cathedral ceiling, stage and balcony. Hays County is a county in the central portion of the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, its official population had reached 241,067. Forensic Anthropology Center At Texas State
The Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State (FACTS) is a 26-acre forensic anthropology research facility located on the Freeman Ranch in San Marcos, Texas. It is one of the seven extant body farms in the United States and the largest such forensics research facility in the world. Background A Forensic Anthropology Research Facility was commissioned by the Texas State University Department of Anthropology and is under the direction of Dr. Michelle Hamilton, a former student of Dr. Bill Bass, founder of the first body farm. The forensic research facility is fully operational and is part of the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State (FACTS). San Marcos River
The San Marcos River rises from the San Marcos Springs, the location of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment (formerly Aquarena Springs), in San Marcos, Texas. The springs are home to several threatened or endangered species, including the Texas blind salamander, fountain darter, and Texas wild rice. The river is a popular recreational area, and is frequented for tubing, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. Course The river begins at San Marcos Springs, rising from the Edwards Aquifer into Spring Lake.
