Tennis European Junior Championships
The Tennis European Junior Championships are the European championships for tennis players who are in the age range recognized by Tennis Europe as junior athletes. The event was organized by the European Tennis Association (ETA), now known as Tennis Europe. Alongside the five Super Category events and the season-ending Junior Masters, the European Junior Championships remains the most popular and prestigious tournament in the Junior Tennis calendar year of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour, for players and national federations alike. Thirteen former and current world No. 1 feature amongst the previous singles champions. History The European Junior Championships were inaugurated in 1976 and have been held annually ever since for three age groups; 14, 16, and 18 & Under. Tennis Europe
Tennis Europe (formerly known as the European Tennis Association) was formed in Rome, Italy on 31 May 1975 by a group of 17 European national tennis federations as a regional governing body for the sport of tennis and under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation. It is the world's largest regional association of the sport's governing body, the International Tennis Federation, with 50 member states in 2015. Based in Basel, Switzerland, the organisation takes an active role in all aspects of the European game, executing tasks delegated by the ITF, and also by organizing a number of competitions and events independently from the ITF, such as European Tennis Championships. Bogdan Borza
Bogdan Borza (born 5 April 1997) is a Romanian tennis player. Borza reached a career high ATP singles ranking of 707 achieved on 11 September 2017. He also reached a career high ATP doubles ranking of 1073 achieved on 19 June 2017. Borza represents Romania at the Davis Cup, where he has a W/L record of 1–3. Career In 2010, the 13-year-old Borza reached five finals in the U14 circuit of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour and won three of them, including the U14 Dyadora Cup at Timisoara, in which he beat his fellow countryman and junior career rival Nicolae Frunză in the final. Julia Apostoli
Julia Sergeyevna Apostoli ( Salnikova ( Russian: Юлия Сергеевна Апостоли, Greek: Τζούλια Σεργκέιεβνα Αποστόλη; born 13 August 1964) is a Russian-born Greek former professional tennis player who represented the Soviet Union and (from 1990 onwards) Greece. Biography Apostoli was born in Moscow, the daughter of Russian football player and manager Sergei Salnikov. Her father was a member of the Soviet association football national team which won the gold medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics, and at club level both played and managed FC Spartak Moscow. Mats Wilander
Mats Arne Olof Wilander (; born 22 August 1964) is a Swedish former world No. 1 tennis player. From 1982 to 1988, he won seven major singles titles (three at the French Open, three at the Australian Open, and one at the US Open), and one major men's doubles title (at Wimbledon). His breakthrough came suddenly and unexpectedly when he won the 1982 French Open at the age of 17. In 1988, Wilander won three of the four singles majors and finished the year ranked as the world No. 1. Although he never won the singles title at Wimbledon, Wilander twice won the Australian Open when it was played on grass courts. Claudia Kohde-Kilsch (''née'' Kohde; born 11 December 1963) is a former German tennis player and member of the Die Linke. During her tennis career, she won two women's doubles Grand Slam titles. She also won eight singles titles and a total of 25 doubles titles. Personal life Kohde-Kilsch was born Claudia Kohde in Saarbrücken, but added the hyphenated "-Kilsch" to her name which came from her adoptive father Jürgen Kilsch, an attorney. She has a younger sister, Katrin. She began playing tennis aged 5, and was soon a rising junior player. Kohde-Kilsch campaigned for Oskar Lafontaine of Die Linke at the 2012 Saarland state election. Patrizia Murgo (born 26 March 1962) is an Italian former professional tennis player. Tennis career Murgo, a native of Florence, was the first Italian to reach an Orange Bowl final when she finished runner-up to Kathy Horvath in 1979. She was also a women's doubles bronze medalist at that year's Mediterranean Games in Split, with Antonella Rosa as her partner. In 1981 and 1982, Murgo was a member of the Italy Federation Cup team as a doubles specialist, usually partnering Sabina Simmonds. She won six of her eight Federation Cup doubles rubbers. Isabelle Villiger (born 24 November 1962) is a Swiss former tennis player who was active during the 1980s. She reached a highest singles ranking of world number 41 in December 1981. In 1979 and 1980 she reached the semifinals of the junior singles event at Wimbledon and in 1981 competed in the Wimbledon singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
