''Tectus'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Tegulidae. Description The shell has a pyramidal shape. Its base is flat, without false-umbilicus. The rhomboidal aperture is very oblique, angular, and wider than long. The outer lip is lirate within. The columella is very short, vertical, with a strong spiral fold, ending anteriorly in a knob or point. Distribution This marine genus has a wide distribution. It occurs in the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, in the Central and East Indian Ocean and off East Africa, Oceania, Indo-China, Indo-Malaysia, the Philippines, East India, Australia (New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia), Kermadec Islands, New Caledonia, Anadaman Islands. Pierre Dénys De Montfort
Pierre Denys de Montfort, also sometimes spelled "Pierre Dénys de Montfort", (1766–1820) was a French naturalist, in particular a malacologist, remembered today for his pioneering inquiries into the existence of the gigantic octopuses. He was inspired by a description from 1783 of an eight-metre long tentacle found in the mouth of a sperm whale. Montfort was author of ''Conchyliologie systématique, et classification méthodique de coquilles'' (2 vols., Paris 1808–1810) and of ''Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particulière des Mollusques'' (2 vols., Paris 1801–1802) published as an addendum to the comte de Buffon's '' Histoire Naturelle, générale et particulière''. ''Tectus architectonicus'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Tegulidae. Description The imperforate, whitish shell has a conical shape. The whorls are flat, subimbricating, and longitudinally costate. The ribs are thick, rounded and subnodose. The base of the shell is flat, and concentrically strongly lirate. The columella is short, tortuous, and truncate anteriorly. The margin of the lips is fimbriated.
