Tate's Bluff Fortification
The Tate's Bluff Fortification is a historic American Civil War fortification in northern Ouachita County, Arkansas. It is located near the confluence of the Ouachita and Little Missouri Rivers, close to County Route 25. The roughly square earthworks is believed to have been built in 1864, after Union Army forces captured Little Rock, as an effort by Confederate Army forces to fortify the Ouachita against a potential Union advance. It saw no combat, and was probably only used as an observation and supply post. The fortification was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. American Civil War
The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865; also known by other names) was a civil war in the United States. Ouachita County, Arkansas
Ouachita County ( ) is a county located in the south central part of the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,120. The county seat is Camden. Ouachita County is part of the Camden, AR Micropolitan Statistical Area. Formed on November 29, 1842, the county is named for the Ouachita River. History Until the late 20th century, the county was a Democratic Party stronghold, aided by the state's having disenfranchised most African Americans at the turn of the century. Ouachita River
The Ouachita River ( ) is a river that runs south and east through the U.S. states of Arkansas and Louisiana, joining the Tensas River to form the Black River near Jonesville, Louisiana. It is the 25th-longest river in the United States (by main stem). Course The Ouachita River begins in the Ouachita Mountains near Mena, Arkansas. It flows east into Lake Ouachita, a reservoir created by Blakely Mountain Dam. The North Fork and South Fork of the Ouachita flow into Lake Ouachita to join the main stream. Union Army
