Taekwondo At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's 67 Kg
The women's 67 kg competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 10 August, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Each semifinal loser faced the last remaining repechage competitor from the opposite half of the bracket in a bronze medal match. Schedule All times are British Summer Time (UTC+1) Results On 13 July 2012, the World Taekwondo Federation released the provisional draw which included the top eight seeds for the competition. Carmen Marton
Carmen Marton (born 30 June 1986) is an Australian taekwondo athlete. She is Australia's first ever world taekwondo champion. Marton is of Polish Australian descent, since her parents were born in Poland and came to Australia as refugees. Her parents, siblings and partner have all been taekwondo athletes. Taekwondo competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held from 8 August to 11 August at the ExCeL London. Competition was held in eight weight categories; four for men, and four for women. Qualification The Taekwondo competition at the 2012 Games included 128 athletes, 64 in each gender, 16 in each of the eight weight divisions. Each competing nations were allowed to enter a maximum of four competitors, two of each gender. Each nation would therefore be eligible to compete in a maximum of half the weight categories. Four places were reserved for Great Britain as host nation, and a further four was invitational as decided by the Tripartite Commission. Karine Sergerie
Karine Sergerie (born February 1, 1985) is the 2007 world champion in women's lightweight (under 63 kg) taekwondo. She is Canada's first female world champion in the sport. Biography Sergerie was born in Sainte-Catherine, Quebec, Canada. Her father and coach, Rejean, introduced her to karate at age five. She competed in karate from 1992–1998. He continued to coach her when she took an interest in taekwondo after her older brother took up the sport. She is the six-time consecutive national champion (2002–2007). Sarah Diana Stevenson (born 30 March 1983) is a British taekwondo athlete. A world champion in 2001, Stevenson won her country's first ever Olympic medal in taekwondo, a bronze, at the 2008 Games in Beijing, her third Olympic competition for Great Britain. Controversially eliminated before the medal rounds, she was reinstated following appeal and went on to win the bronze medal final. Stevenson again became world champion in 2011, despite the loss of both her parents to cancer in the preceding year. Stevenson was selected for her home games in London in 2012, where she took the Olympic oath at the opening ceremony on behalf of all the athletes.
