Taekwondo At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 80 Kg
The men's 80 kg competition in taekwondo at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place on August 22 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single-elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Each semifinal loser faced the last remaining repechage competitor from the opposite half of the bracket in a bronze medal match. The Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Construction The venue covers an area of 2.38 hectares and the total floor space of construction reaches 24,662 square metres. The seating capacity is 8,024 seats, including 3,956 temporary ones. It consists of a main gym and a comprehensive facility. Construction started in October 2005 and was completed in August 2007. Anju Jason
Anju Jason (born November 21, 1987) is a Marshallese taekwondo practitioner. Born in the Marshall Islands, he would move to Hawaii at the age of six with his sister. Three years later, Anju would see a flier advertising a taekwondo academy and eventually joined the academy. While at the academy, he won multiple local and state-wide tournaments. After a tournament in November 2007, Jason's instructor called him and told him that the Marshall Islands were planning to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics for the nation's first appearance at an Olympic Games. Jason then competed in a qualifying tournament in New Caledonia and won his match, qualifying as the first eligible Marshallese competitor for the team. Taekwondo At The 2008 Summer Olympics
The event of Taekwondo competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held in Beijing. It was held between August 20th and August 23rd at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. The event consisted of various athletes, there were 128 Taekwondo practitioners, consisting of 64 men and 64 women. These athletes competed in 8 events, where for the first time ever, two bronze medals were awarded per event. The highlight of the 2008 Summer Olympics were the top 3 Men Taekwondo medalists, which are: Guillermo Perez from Mexico, Yulis Gabriel Mercedes from Dominica Republic, and Mu-Yen Chu from Taipei.
