Taegeukdang
Taegeukdang () is a historic bakery now located in Jangchung-dong, Jung District, Seoul, South Korea. It was originally founded in 1946 in Myeong-dong, and moved to its current location in 1973. It is considered the oldest active bakery in Seoul. It has remained a family business since then; in 2012 the third generation of the family took over. It is classified as an Oraegage, a store of historic value, by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It sells a number of Western and Korean baked goods and confectionaries, including the ice cream sandwich product Monaca Ice Cream (). Oraegage
Oraegage (), also stylized as OraeGage and translated to Seoul Historical Store, is a designation by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for long-running businesses. The program recognizes such businesses, offers them support, and provides information on them for tourists. It has been running since 2017. The name of the program means literally "old store", but reportedly also has a meaning of "store that is wanted to be even older". The program reportedly selects entries in its list by scouting the city, conducting interviews and verifying aspects of the business, and narrowing down candidates. Members of the list reportedly have been running for over 30 years or have been owned by at least two generations. Jangchung-dong () is a '' dong'' (neighborhood) of Jung District, Seoul, South Korea. Etymology The name Jangchung-dong originated from the Jangchungdan that was located in this area. Established in 1900, Jangchungdan was a place where ceremonies honoring loyal subjects and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country during the Eulmi Incident (the assassination of Empress Myeongseong) were held. The small chain has been hailed as one of the best in the nation and is a representative brand of the city. Annual sales were KRW 53.2 billion in 2018.
