The women's singles table tennis event was a part of the table tennis programme at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The event took place from Saturday 28 July to Wednesday 1 August 2012 at ExCeL London. The tournament was a single elimination tournament with a third place playoff played between the two losing semi-finalists. The draw was conducted on 25 July 2012. Shen Yanfei
Shen Yanfei (; born December 24, 1979, in Hebei, China) is a female Chinese-born table tennis player who now represents Spain and resides in Cartagena, Murcia. She competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, reaching the third round of the singles competition. She also competed in the team competition. Georgina Póta
Georgina Póta (; born 13 January 1985 in Budapest) is a multiple European Champion table tennis player from Hungary. Career Póta was born in the Hungary, Hungarian capital Budapest in 1985 and began practicing table tennis in 1990. Between 1994 and 2008 she played for Statisztika PSC in Hungary, subsequently she moved to TTC Berlin Eastside. For 1998 she already played in the Hungarian Top 12 and also participated at the Table Tennis European Youth Championships in Norcia, Italy, where she finished runner-up in the Girls' Cadet Doubles with Ildikó Csernyik. A year later she celebrated her first European Championship title after winning the Cadet Mixed Doubles event on the side of Dániel Zwickl. Kristin Silbereisen (born March 14, 1985) is a German table tennis player who currently plays for TTC Berlin Eastside. Career Silbereisen began playing table tennis at the age of seven and started competing for DJK Ochtendung. As a Cadet and Junior, she won Team Gold at the European Youth Championships three times. She made her debut for the senior team on October 12, 2004, against Italy. Liu Jia ( zh, t=劉佳; born 16 February 1982 in Beijing, China) is a Chinese-born Austrian left-handed table tennis player. Early life From 1992 to 1995, Liu attended Shichahai Sporting High School in Beijing. Afterward she became a member of professional club Shian Nuntan, where she played with Zhang Yining. Despite Liu's successes as a Cadet and Junior, competition within the Chinese team was strong and prospects for a future international career were dim. Ni Xia Lian ( zh, s=倪夏連; born 4 July 1963) is a Chinese-born Luxembourgish table tennis player who has represented Luxembourg in international competitions since 1991. Born in Shanghai, China, she currently lives with her husband, Tommy Danielsson, in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg. Li Qian (born 30 July 1986 in Baoding) is a Chinese-Polish female table tennis player, who currently lived in Tarnobrzeg and represents the team of Siarka Tarnobrzeg.
