Sweet Adeline (1926 Film)
''Sweet Adeline'' is a 1926 American silent comedy film directed by Jerome Storm and starring Charles Ray and Gertrude Olmstead. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Ben Wilson is the household drudge, bullied by his older brother Bill, with his only consolation being the owner of a fine tenor voice. He falls in love with Adeline, newly arrived to their rural village. Bill ends up being his rival for her affection. Ben makes a local hit singing "Sweet Adeline," and Bill procures a chance for him to sing in a Chicago cabaret. At first he breaks down, but recovers and rallies himself and is warmly received. Ida May Lewis (May 1848 - April 21, 1935) was an American stage and screen actress. She started in the theater when Daly and Wallack were the top manager impresarios. She later appeared in many silent films allegedly beginning with David Horsley studios in 1911. From 1913 she did much silent film work. She appeared in Frank Keenan's version of '' The Bells'' in 1918. Her final film was in 1932 in an uncredited role in the May Robson 'Grandma' segment of ''If I Had a Million''. Lewis died at her home in Los Angeles on April 21, 1935, and was buried somewhere in Hollywood Forever Cemetery as her listed plot had been removed by 1935. Carmen Gertrude Short (April 6, 1902 – July 31, 1968) was an American film actress of the silent and early sound era. She appeared in more than 130 films between 1912 and 1945. Biography Carmen Gertrude Short was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and died in Hollywood, California, aged 66, from a heart attack. One of her siblings was actor Antrim Short.
