Evansville, Indiana is the home to two minor league professional sports teams and one amateur sports team. The city is also the home to two NCAA collegiate teams, and nine high schools that participate in the Indiana High School Athletic Association. The Evansville Otters are a professional baseball team based in Evansville, Indiana. They compete in the West Division of the independent Frontier League. Since their establishment in 1995, the Otters have played at historic Bosse Field, which originally opened in 1915. Goebel Sports Complex
Goebel Soccer Complex is a multi-purpose, $3.4 million project that opened in the spring of 2004 on of land in Evansville, Indiana. The facility has nine Olympic-size irrigated Bermuda grass fields and one Olympic-size AstroPlay turf field. The main field and five of the grass fields have lights for night play. In addition to soccer, the complex also hosts football and lacrosse events. Roller derby is a roller skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. Ohio Valley Premier League
The Ohio Valley Premier League (OVPL) is a USASA-affiliated league through US Club Soccer that includes teams from Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The regular season of the OVPL runs May through July. It is the only premier U23 adult amateur league in the region. The men's division was announced in November 2019 and the women's division was announced in February 2020. Both were due to begin play in summer 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer season was cancelled and a fall season was started. In 2021, the OVPL also hosted a spring season. Evansville Legends FC is an American soccer club based in Evansville, Indiana. The team was founded in 2021 by Steve McCullough and competes in the River Conference of the Ohio Valley Premier League. The Legends play their home games on Old National Bank Field at Goebel Soccer Complex. History Following the height of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Steve McCullough began training small groups of high school soccer players from throughout the Evansville metropolitan area. Women's Flat Track Derby Association
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby, and association of leagues around the world. The organization was founded in April 2004 as the United Leagues Coalition (ULC), but was renamed in November 2005. It is registered in Raleigh, North Carolina as a 501(c)(6) business league organization, a type of nonprofit organization.
