The South Australian Football Hall of Fame enshrines those who have made a most significant contribution to the game of Australian Football. The Hall of Fame was established in 2002 when 114 outstanding individuals became inaugural inductees. Since then, the contributions of other players, administrators, media representatives and umpires have been added to this prestigious roll of honour... Hall Of Fame
A hall, wall, or walk of fame is a list of individuals, achievements, or other entities, usually chosen by a group of electors, to mark their excellence or fame in their field. In some cases, these halls of fame consist of actual halls or museums that enshrine the honorees with sculptures, plaques, and displays of memorabilia and general information regarding the inducted recipients. Sometimes, the honorees' plaques may instead be posted on a wall (hence a "wall of fame") or inscribed on a sidewalk (as in a "walk of fame", "walk of stars", or "avenue of fame"). Colin Churchett
Colin Churchett (30 January 1926 – 5 February 2012) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He also played a game for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A full-forward known for his accuracy in front of goals, Churchett was the league's top goal-kicker for four consecutive seasons from 1948 to 1951. In the second half of that sequence he kicked 105 goals and 102 goals respectively. He was also Glenelg's leading goal-kicker in an additional two seasons. Churchett represented the South Australian interstate team on seven occasions during his career. While away in Melbourne on war service in 1944, Churchett played a senior VFL game with South Melbourne. It came in a win over Geelong at Junction oval where South Melbourne scored an unusual 8.30.(78). Russell Ebert
Russell Frank Ebert (22 June 1949 – 5 November 2021) was an Australian rules footballer and coach. He is considered one of the greatest players in the history of Australian rules football in South Australia. Ebert is the only player to have won four Magarey Medals, which are awarded to the best and fairest player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He is one of four Australian rules footballers to have a statue at Adelaide Oval, the others being Ken Farmer, Malcolm Blight and Barrie Robran. Football historian John Devaney described Ebert as coming "as close as any player in history to exhibiting complete mastery over all the essential skills of the game," and he is widely regarded as the Port Adelaide Football Club's greatest ever player. Jim Deane
Jim Deane (2 January 1928 – 13 November 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). A half forward flanker, Deane is one of only two South Adelaide players to have won dual Magarey Medals. He won the first in 1953 and the second in 1957, although the latter was not awarded until 1998 when the league decided to give players who lost on a countback over the years their Medal retrospectively. Deane also won six best and fairest awards for South Adelaide and represented South Australia at interstate football on 15 occasions. Deane coached Myrtleford in the Ovens and Murray Football League from 1958 to 1962. He won the league's Morris Medal in 1958 and 1961. In 1970 and 1971 he was non-playing coach of South Adelaide. Leslie Clarence "Bro" Dayman (28 October 1901 – 11 March 1979) was an Australian Rules footballer who played for Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The fifth of the seven children of Arthur Ernest Dayman (1873—1944), and Edith Annie Dayman (1872—1937), née Smitham, Leslie Clarence Dayman was born at Salisbury, South Australia on 28 October 1901. Robert Day (footballer)
Robert John Day (born 13 April 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played most of his career in the SANFL with West Adelaide before moving to Victoria to play with Hawthorn in the VFL. Day was a centreman who started his career with West Adelaide in the SANFL in 1962, making his debut for the club in the Anzac Day "Grand Final Replay" against Norwood at the Adelaide Oval. In 1966 he was named in the All Australian team and was a three time Best & Fairest winner with West Adelaide (1965, 1966 and 1970) and captained the club in his final season (1970). He also represented South Australia 12 times at interstate football. In 1971 he moved to Victoria and signed with Hawthorn in the VFL. He was a member of that season's premiership team, playing as a half back flanker in Hawthorn's Grand Final win over St Kilda. He was replaced at half time because he was suffering from concussion. Rick Davies (footballer)
Rick Davies (born Evan Rick Davies, 8 April 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Sturt and South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nicknamed the "Jumbo Prince", Davies played a total of 390 games throughout his career (317 for Sturt, 33 for South Adelaide, 20 for Hawthorn, and 20 State Games for South Australia. Though not tall for a ruckman at only 188 cm (6'2"), Davies was known for his strong marking and body strength which he used to great effect against opponents who were often taller and heavier than him. Peter Darley
Peter Darley (born 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) during the 1960s and 1970s. He is a member of the first ruck in the club's official Team of the Century called the 'Greatest Team'. Peter Darley, who was a ruckman, played in South Adelaide's 1964 premiership side. In the subsequent years South Adelaide struggled but Darley went on to win a record seven best and fairest awards for the club. His awards came in 1963, 1964, 1966 to 1968 and 1972 to 1973. Anthony Joseph "Bos" Daly (9 January 1874 – 21 August 1942) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the five teams in the South Australian Football Association (SAFA) between 1893 and 1912. Family He is the brother of John "Bunny" Daly, who was also inducted in the South Australian Football Hall of Fame. Football In 1893, whilst playing for Norwood, he set a record for the most goals kicked by a player in a single game of elite football, which has been equaled but remains unbeaten to date. Daly kicked 23 of Norwood's 29 goals in a 27-goal win over Adelaide (unrelated to the modern-day AFL team). However, due to the visitors being unable to field a full team, the game was played with fourteen players per side instead of the normal twenty of the time.
