Second International Congress On World Evangelization
The Second International Congress on World Evangelization, often called Lausanne II or Lausanne '89, was held in Manila. The conference is noted for producing the Manila Manifesto, a renewed and expanded commitment to the Lausanne Covenant, an influential document in modern Evangelical Christianity. It was also here that the Christian mission strategist Luis Bush first highlighted the need for a major focus of evangelism in the "Resistant Belt", covering the middle of the eastern hemisphere. Further research in mid-1990 led to the 10/40 Window concept, which contrasts the major needs and few resources devoted to this part of the world. The congress was a very influential world conference of over 4,000 Evangelical Christian leaders that was held in Manila, the Philippines, in 1989 to discuss the progress, resources, and methods of evangelizing the world. Manila ( , ; fil, Maynila, ), officially the City of Manila ( fil, Lungsod ng Maynila, ), is the capital of the Philippines, and its second-most populous city. Lausanne Covenant
The Lausanne Covenant is a July 1974 religious manifesto promoting active worldwide Christian evangelism. One of the most influential documents in modern evangelicalism, it was written at the First International Congress on World Evangelization in Lausanne, Switzerland, where it was adopted by 2,300 evangelicals in attendance. History In July 1974, the original Lausanne conference brought together approximately 2,700 Christian religious leaders from over 150 countries and was called by a committee headed by the American evangelist Billy Graham. Luis Bush
Luis Bush is an Argentina-born Christian missionary and the president of the Transform World Connections. Early life Bush was born in Argentina, but was raised in Brazil. In 1970 he graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. in economics and worked in Business Consulting for an Arthur Andersen Consulting in Chicago before deciding in 1973 to devote his life to Christian ministry. He graduated from theological seminary in 1978. Ministry In 1978, he traveled to San Salvador, along with his wife Doris, to serve at the Iglesia Nazaret as senior pastor. A Christian mission is an organized effort for the propagation of the Christian faith. Missions involve sending individuals and groups across boundaries, most commonly geographical boundaries, to carry on evangelism or other activities, such as educational or hospital work.
