Harry Mengden Scarth (11 May 1814 – 5 April 1890) was a British clergyman, antiquary and an expert on the Romans in Britain. Life Scarth was born in Staindrop, Durham in 1814. In 1868 he published ''Aquae Solis''. He became the rector of the Church of All Saints in Wrington in 1871. Scarth died in Tangier and was buried in Wrington. William Bain Scarth
William Bain Scarth (November 10, 1837 – May 15, 1902) was a Scottish-born businessman and political figure in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada. He represented Winnipeg in the House of Commons of Canada from 1887 to 1891 as a Conservative member. He was born in Aberdeen, the son of James Lendrum Scarth and Jane Geddes, was educated in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and came to Upper Canada in 1855. Scarth campaigned for Isaac Buchanan in Hamilton and then Adam Hope in London and then Toronto, also working as manager of the Toronto branch of Hope's hardware company. In 1869, he married Jessie Stuart Franklin Hamilton. He entered business on his own as a timber merchant and shipowner in 1871. He was also involved in real estate, mining and railways, and managed capital invested in Canada on behalf of British investors. Scarth served as a member of Toronto city council in 1879 and 1882. James S. Gale (February 19, 1863 – January 31, 1937; in modern Korean 제임스 스카스 게일, in old Sino-Korean characters 奇一 (기일)) was a Canadian Presbyterian missionary, educator and Bible translator in Korea. Early life Gale was born on February 19, 1863 in Alma, Ontario, Canada. His father John Gale was a Scottish immigrant who moved to Canada in 1832. His Pennsylvania Dutch mother Miami Bradt was from Hamilton, Ontario. Together they had six children, of which James was the fifth. In 1882 Gale entered St. Catharine's Collegiate Institute, St. Catharines, Ontario. From 1884 to 1888 Gale studied arts at the University of Toronto, including the summer of 1886 at the Collège de France, Paris on a language course. During his first year of study he heard Dwight L. James William Scarth (26 August 1926 – 12 December 2000) was an English footballer who for more than fifty years held the record for the fastest hat-trick scored in the history of the Football League. Playing career Born in North Shields in 1926, he first made his name with local amateur sides, and as a result was invited to Tottenham Hotspur for trials. Although he impressed the London club and was signed as a professional, he found first team opportunities limited at White Hart Lane. He was one of 19 players used in the club's Championship winning side of 1950–51 when he featured in one match. He moved to Gillingham in 1952 for £3,500. It was during his time at Priestfield Stadium that he wrote his name into the record books with a lightning-fast hat-trick against Leyton Orient on 1 November 1952. Vera Scarth-Johnson (1912 – 19 May 1999) was a noted botanist and botanical illustrator who is also remembered for her continual efforts to teach others to treasure the flora and environment of Australia and, in particular, the botanically rich region of Cooktown and the Endeavour River Valley, on Cape York Peninsula, in far northern Queensland. Early life Vera Scarth-Johnson was born in 1912 in Morley, near Leeds, Yorkshire England. She attended school very near the birthplace of James Cook.
