The twenty-ninth season of ''Saturday Night Live'', an American sketch comedy series, originally aired in the United States on NBC between October 4, 2003, and May 15, 2004. History This season marked the debut of a brand new stage for the host's monologue and the musical guest performing stage. Instead of the wrought-iron fire escape motif with the blinking "ON AIR" light, the stages are now modeled after Grand Central Terminal (right down to the spherical clock). Cast Before the start of the season, longtime cast members Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan, who had both been on the show since 1996, and Dean Edwards, who had been a featured player since 2001, all left the show. The twenty-eighth season of ''Saturday Night Live'', an American sketch comedy series, originally aired in the United States on NBC between October 5, 2002 and May 17, 2003. Cast Before the start of the season, longtime cast members Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer left the show. Ferrell, who had been a cast member for seven seasons since 1995, had left at the end of the previous season to pursue a career starring in films, while Gasteyer, who had been with the cast for six seasons since 1996, was on maternity leave during the break and decided not to return. Hired as new featured players were comedian and punk musician Fred Armisen and TV writer and comedian Will Forte (of The Groundlings). The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. John Clayton Mayer ( ; born October 16, 1977) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. ''Weekend Update'' is a ''Saturday Night Live'' sketch and satirical news program that comments on and parodies current events. It is the show's longest-running recurring sketch, having been on since the show's first broadcast, and is typically presented in the middle of the show immediately after the first musical performance. Historically, one or two of the players are cast in the role of news anchor, presenting gag news items based on current events and acting as hosts for occasional editorials, commentaries, or other performances by other cast members or guests. Horacio Sanz (born June 4, 1969), better known by his stage name Horatio Sanz, is a Chilean-born American actor and comedian. He was a cast member on '' Saturday Night Live'' from 1998 to 2006.
