Sabretache (journal)
The Military Historical Society of Australia (MHSA) is a voluntary organisation formed in 1957, focused upon promoting research and study of Australia's military history. Administered by a federal council based in the Australian Capital Territory, the society has state and regional branches in all states of Australia, except New South Wales, which split from the organisation in 1968. The society has published a quarterly journal, ''Sabretache'', continuously since mid-1958. History Formed on 17 May 1957 in Melbourne, the society was originally known as the "Military Collectors Society". This name was changed in July 1959 to the "Military Research and Collectors Society of Australia", before being changed to its current name in April 1964. Graham Robert McKenzie-Smith, is an Australian historian and forester. Military historian McKenzie-Smith has written books about Australian Second World War army units and movements. He has been a regular contributor to ''Sabretache'', the journal of the Military Historical Society of Australia. McKenzie Smith spent some 35 years working on ''The Unit Guide'' – a six-volume box set which gives profiles of all 5,700 units that made up the Australian Army in the Second World War. Peter Stanley
Peter Alan Stanley (born 28 October 1956) is an Australian historian and research professor at the University of New South Wales in the Australian Centre for the Study of Armed Conflict and Society. He was Head of the Centre for Historical Research at the National Museum of Australia from 2007–13. Between 1980 and 2007 he was an historian and sometime exhibition curator at the Australian War Memorial, including as head of the Historical Research Section and Principal Historian from 1987. He has written eight books about Australia and the Great War since 2005, and was a joint winner of the Prime Minister's Prize for Australian History in 2011. Mark Robert Johnston (born 1960) is an Australian historian, teacher and author. Johnston is currently Head of History at Scotch College in Melbourne. He has written several publications about Australian history. Early life and career Johnston was born in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1960. He was educated at Friends' School and the University of Tasmania, before going on to complete a Master of Arts and later a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Melbourne. Military history is the study of armed conflict in the history of humanity, and its impact on the societies, cultures and economies thereof, as well as the resulting changes to local and international relationships.
