Syrian Turkmen Group
The Syrian Turkmen Group ( tr, Suriye Türkmenler Birliği) was an early opposition movement of Syrian Turkmens. Founded in 2011 by prominent Syrian Turkmens and 180 Syrian Turkmen in Turkey, it was led by Bekir Atacan. In late 2011, it joined forces with the preexisting Syrian Turkmen Movement to form the larger Syria Turkmen Bloc, which was officially established in February 2012. Syria Turkmen Bloc
The Syria Turkmen Bloc ( tr, Suriye Türkmen Kitlesi) or Syrian Turkmen National Bloc ( ar, الكتلة الوطنية التركمانية السورية), is one of the two major opposition movements of Syrian Turkmens. Still in the foundation phase, it suffered an early split, leading to the emergence of the Syrian Democratic Turkmen Movement. A reconciliatory meeting in December 2012 laid the grounds to the formation of the Syrian Turkmen Assembly. Since then, the ''Syrian Turkmen Bloc'' focussed on its remaining strongholds in Latakia and Bayır-Bucak, while the ''Syrian Democratic Turkmen Movement'' focusses on Aleppo. Syrian Turkmen, also referred to as Syrian Turkomans, Turkish Syrians, or simply Syrian Turks or Turks of Syria, ( ar, تركمان سوريا; tr, Suriye Türkmenleri or ) are Syrian citizens of Turkish origin who mainly trace their roots to Anatolia (i.e. modern Turkey). Ali Öztürkmen
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. The Syrian Democratic Turkmen Movement ( tr, Suriye Demokratik Türkmen Hareketi; ar, الحركة التركمانية الديمقراطية) is one of the two major opposition movements of Syrian Turkmens. Headquartered in Istanbul, it emerged in March 2012 from a split inmidst the foundation phase of the Syria Turkmen Bloc, which is the other major Syrian Turkmen movement. Since another regrouping in December 2012 drove many of its more prominent members back to the ''Syria Turkmen Bloc'', the ''Syrian Democratic Turkmen Movement'' now focusses on its stronghold in Aleppo province, where it is considered to have some leverage within the Turkmen parts of civil society.
