Syed Mokbul Hussain
Syed Makbul Hossain (; 1946 – 16 March 2022), also known as Lechu Mia (), was a Bangladeshi politician and businessman. He was twice a member of parliament (1986 and 2001) and held the Sylhet-6 ( Beanibazar-Golapganj) seat. Birth and early life Syed Makbul Hossain was born in 1946 in the village of Sundisail in West Amura Union, Golapganj, Sylhet, British Raj. He obtained both his BA and MA in History from the University of Dhaka. He later obtained his PhD from the University of Calcutta. His wife was Sajeda Parveen. He had one son, Syed Tanvir Hossain, and one daughter, Syeda Adiba Hussain. Career Syed Makbul Hossain actively participated in the war of liberation. He started his career as a government official after the independence of Bangladesh. He served as the Deputy Commissioner of Tangail District. Nurul Islam Nahid
Nurul Islam Nahid (; born 5 July 1945) is a Bangladeshi politician and author. He served as a member of the Bangladeshi Parliament from the Sylhet-6 constituency for 15 years, being elected in 1996, 2008, 2014, and 2018. He was also the country's minister of education from 2014 to 2018. Early life and education Nurul Islam Nahid was born on 5 July 1945, to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Kashba in Beanibazar, Sylhet District. His education began at the Kashba Primary School. He then enrolled at the Panchakhanda Hargovind High School, from which he received his Matriculation in 1961. His political career began whilst he was studying at the Murari Chand College in Sylhet, and continued at the University of Dhaka. He was elected as the president of the Bangladesh Student Union in 1970, and was a founding president of Jubo Union in 1976. Sharaf Uddin Khashru
Sharaf Uddin Khashru is a politician in Sylhet District of Bangladesh. He was elected a member of parliament from Sylhet-6 on the Jatiya Party ticket in the fifth Jatiya Sangsad elections held in the 1991 and in the sixth Jatiya Sangsad elections held on 15 February 1996, was elected a member of parliament from Sylhet-6 seat for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Muhammad Ashraf Ali
Muhammad Ashraf Ali () was an Awami League politician in Bangladesh and member of parliament for Sylhet-6. He was president of the Sylhet District Awami League and part of the last District Awami League Advisory Council. Early life Ali was born in Balaganj Thana, Sylhet District, British Raj (now Osmani Nagar Upazila, Sylhet District, Bangladesh). Career In 1968, Ali became the elected president of the Sylhet District branch of the Chhatra League. During the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, he was a local freedom organiser. Ali was also a president of the Greater Sylhet Ganadabi Parishad. Ali was elected to parliament from Sylhet-6 (now known as Sylhet-2) as a BAKSAL candidate in 1975 in a by-election. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was another landslide victory for the Awami League-led Grand Alliance (Bangladesh), Grand Alliance led by Sheikh Hasina. Beanibazar Upazila
Beanibazar () is an upazila (sub-district) of Sylhet District in northeastern Bangladesh, part of the Sylhet Division. The area is the successor of the territory of Panchakhanda, formerly ruled by the aristocratic Pal family. History Beanibazar was part of the Kamarupa Kingdom in ancient times along with North Bengal and Mymensingh. The Nidhanpur copperplate inscription records a 7th-century land grant to 200 Brahmins near the Kushiyara River by King Bhaskaravarman. The historic Panchakhanda pargana covered all of Beanibazar as well as surrounding areas. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and opposition leader Khaleda Zia put under house arrest. 1991 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 27 February 1991. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) emerged as the largest party in parliament, winning 140 of the 300 directly elected seats. The BNP formed a government with the support of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and on 20 March Khaleda Zia was sworn in for her first term as Prime Minister.
