Sydney Girls High School (abbreviated as SGHS or Sydney Girls) is a government-funded single-sex academically selective secondary day school located at Moore Park, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1883 and operated by the New South Wales Department of Education and Communities, as a school within the Port Jackson Education Area of the Sydney Region, the school has approximately 930 students from Years 7 to 12. History Sydney Girls High School was originally a division of Sydney High School in 1883. The building had two storeys walled off, with male occupancy on the first floor, and female occupancy on the second. The founding head mistress was Miss Lucy Wheatley-Walker (later Mrs Lucy Garvin). She was a recent English emigrant. Anzac Parade is a major road in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia which travels south-east from the CBD, named in memory of members of the First Australian Imperial Force (later to become known as Anzacs) who marched down the street from their barracks (now a heritage listed part of the University of New South Wales) to Sydney Harbour, where they were transported to Europe during World War I. Rowing, often called crew American English, in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using Oar (sport rowing), oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars (called blades in the United Kingdom) are attached to the boat using Rowlock, rowlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. UNSW Rowing Club in Sydney, Australia is a varsity rowing club of the University of New South Wales and was founded in 1952. It has occupied its current boatshed at Huntley's Cove on Tarban Creek on the Parramatta River since 1974. The club has a varsity and masters focus. History The University was founded in 1949 as the New South Wales University of Technology, a campus commenced at Kensington in 1951 with a name change to University of New South Wales occurring in 1958. The Higher School Certificate (HSC) is the credential awarded to secondary school students who successfully complete senior high school level studies (Years 10, 11 and 12 or equivalent) in New South Wales and some ACT schools in Australia, as well as some international schools in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Papua New Guinea.
