Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Paralympic swimming, Swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were 146 events (76 male, 67 female, 3 mixed relay events) - six fewer events than the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Swimming is the second largest sport: behind athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, athletics and ahead of table tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, table tennis. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Qualification Qualification starts from 1 October 2018 and finishes on 1 August 2021. Zheng Tao (; born 26 December 1990) is a Chinese para swimmer and five-time Paralympic champion. He is known as the "armless swimmer". He made a world record by winning 4 gold medals in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic. Early life Zheng lost his arms due to an electric shock when he was a child. Swimming career In 2004 Zheng took up the sport of Swimming and in 2010 he made his international swimming debut when Zheng represented China at the World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Zheng competed in his first Paralympic Games at the 2012 London Paralympics, where he won the gold medal in a close race in the 100m backstroke S6 final. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, he suffered a lower back injury but still won the gold medal at the Men's 100 metre backstroke S6 event with a world record of 1:10.84, two seconds faster than the previous record, which was established by himself in 2015. Aurélie Rivard
Aurélie Rivard (born May 14, 1996) is a Canadian Paralympic swimmer. (search for "Rivard") After winning three Paralympics gold medals, claiming a silver Paralympic medal and setting two World Records and a Paralympic Record at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was named Canada's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony. Rivard won five medals at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Rivard is from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where she trained at the Club de natation du Haut-Richelieu. In 2017 she moved to Montreal and began training with Canada's High Performance Center. Sabrina Duchesne (born April 17, 2001) is a Canadian para swimmer who won a bronze medal in the Women's 34pts 4x100m relay event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Katarina Mirabelle Roxon (born April 5, 1993) is a medal-winning Canadian para swimmer and a five-time member of Canada's Paralympic Team.
