Swimming At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Women's 100 Metre Breaststroke SB8
Swimming at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France took place between 29 August and 7 September 2024. There were 71 male, 64 female and 6 mixed open relays, this was five fewer events than in the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Medals are awarded to top finishers in each disability classification. Qualification Qualification took place from 1 October 2022 to 31 January 2024. Schedule The event schedule was announced in February 2023. Paris La Défense Arena is a multipurpose Arena, indoor arena in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris. Opened in October 2017, it was developed by the rugby union club Racing 92, and replaced Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir as their home. Rowan Crothers
Rowan Crothers (born 24 October 1997) is an Australian freestyle swimmer. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and 2024 Paris Paralympics. He won two gold and one silver medals at the Tokyo Paralympics and two silver and one bronze medals at Paris Paralympics. Personal life Crothers was born 15 weeks prematurely on 24 October 1997 in Gosford on the New South Wales Central Coast and currently lives in Moorooka, Queensland. Rowan attended Newmarket State School, Kelvin Grove State College and St Laurence's College. Crothers' prematurity resulted in him developing cerebral palsy due to IVH, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia causing permanent lung scarring. Phelipe Rodrigues
Phelipe Andrews Melo Rodrigues (born 10 August 1990) is a paralympic swimmer from Brazil competing mainly in category S10 events. He was born with a club foot and had two surgeries when he was just four weeks old. After his second surgery when his foot was in the right position he had an infection which made his leg blow the knee and specially his tendon to stop growing, disabling his right foot movements. He started swimming when he was 8 months as physiotherapy. He also tried many different sports but his passion since childhood was swimming. Thomas Gallagher (swimmer)
Thomas "Tom" James Gallagher (born 20 May 1999) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer and surf life saver. He represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, winning a bronze medal and the 2024 Paris Paralympics, winning one gold and two bronze medal Personal Gallagher was born and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. He has cerebral palsy and suffers from bouts of pancreatitis. In 2019, he moved to the Gold Coast, Queensland, to further his surf life saving career. Denis Tarasov (born 31 July 1993) is a Paralympic swimmer from Russia competing mainly in category S8 events. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London he won five medals, including gold in the 50 metre freestyle S8 event. He has represented Russia at two IPC World Championships with a total of 12 medals. Simone Barlaam (born 12 July 2000) is an Italian Paralympic swimmer who competes in international level events. He is a thirteen time World champion and eight time European champion. He competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, winning a gold medal. Personal life Barlaam was born with a coxa vara and congenital hypoplasia in his right femur which means that his right leg doesn't develop resulting in his right leg shorter than his left leg. Coxa vara was caused by doctors who performed a podalic version procedure while he was in utero but his leg broke which doctors knew nothing about.
