Damayanti () is a heroine in ancient Indian literature, primarily known for her role in the episode of '' Nalopakhyana'', which is embedded within the '' Vana Parva'' (the third book) of the epic '' Mahabharata'' (c. 400 BCE – 400 CE). The Adi Parva ("Book of the Beginning") is the first of the eighteen ''parvas'' (books) of the Indian epic ''Mahabharata''. "Ādi" ( आदि) in Sanskrit means "first". Adi Parva traditionally has 19 parts and 236 ''adhyayas'' (chapters). The critical edition of Adi Parva has 19 parts and 225 chapters.
