Swami Ayyappan (1975 Film)
''Swami Ayyappan'' () is a 1975 Indian Hindu mythological film. Directed and produced by P. Subramaniam, it was simultaneously shot in Malayalam and Tamil. The film stars Gemini Ganesan, Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, Master Raghu/ Karan, K. Balaji, Sekhar, Srividya, Unnimary, Lakshmi, Raghavan, Rani Chandra and Vinodini. The film met with critical acclaim and became a box office success. It won four Kerala State Film Awards. The film helped in popularising the shrine of Sabarimala further in Tamil Nadu. Cast Soundtrack The music is composed by G. Devarajan. The song "Harivarasanam" sung by K. J. Yesudas and composed (in ''Madhyamavati'' raga) by G. Devarajan for the film later became part of the daily routine of Sabarimala Temple. It is played every night during the closing ceremony of the temple. Sreekumaran Thampi
Sreekumaran Thampi (born 16 March 1940) is an Indian lyricist, music director, film director, director, film producer, producer and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema. He also writes poetry and is a recipient of the Vallathol Award. In 2017, he was awarded the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema. Film career Thampi was introduced to the Malayalam film industry in 1966 by P. Subramaniam as a lyricist in the film ''Kaattumallika''. Ayyappan
Ayyappan, also known as Dharmasastha and Manikandan, is the Hindu deity of truth and righteousness. According to Hindu theology, he is described as the son of Shiva and Mohini (the female avatar of Vishnu), thus representing a bridge between Shaivism and Vaishnavism. Ayyappan is a warrior deity and is revered for his ascetic devotion to Dharma, the ethical and right way of living. Vayalar Ramavarma
Vayalar Ramavarma (25 March 1928 – 27 October 1975), also known as Rama Varma Vayalar and simply Vayalar, and was an Indian poet and lyricist of Malayalam literature, Malayalam language. He was known for his poems, including ''Sargasangeetham'', ''Mulankaadu'', ''Padamudrakal'', ''Aayisha'', and ''Oru Judas janikkunnu'', and for around 1,300 songs he penned for 256 Malayalam films. He received the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in 1972 and was the winner of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist in its year of inception which he received three more times. The Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple () is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Ayyappan, who is also known as Shasta (deity), Dharma Shasta and is the son of the deities Shiva and Mohini (female avatar of the god Vishnu). Raga
A raga ( ; , ; ) is a melodic framework for improvisation in Indian classical music akin to a musical mode, melodic mode. It is central to classical Indian music. Each raga consists of an array of melodic structures with musical motifs; and, from the perspective of the Indian tradition, the resulting music has the ability to "colour the mind" as it engages the emotions of the audience. Madhyamavati (madhyamāvati) is a raga in Carnatic music (musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is an ''audava'' rāga (or ''owdava'' rāga, meaning pentatonic scale), as it does not have all the seven musical notes (''swaras''). It is a ''janya'' rāga (derived scale). Harivarasanam
Harivarasanam (ഹരിവരാസനം) is a Sanskritised Malayalam ashtakam sung as a lullaby to Lord Ayyappan at the Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, situated in Kerala, India. The song became popular through the first stanza in the ''Keerthanam'' known as ''Hariharatmajashtakam'' (''ഹരിഹരാത്മജാഷ്ട്ടകം''). The traditional version of the song is sung vocally inside the temple during the daily temple closing ceremony. The popular version of the song is played simultaneously for the devotees. Madhavan Nair Born on (23 September 1933) commonly known by his stage name Madhu, is an Indian actor, director, producer, former college lecturer and former film studio owner, who works in Malayalam cinema and a certain number of Hindi and Tamil films. He was a prominent lead actor during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s and has acted in more than 400 films. Madhu has also directed 12 films, produced 15 films and at one time owned the Uma Film Studio. Maalikapurathamma () is a Hindu goddess enshrined in a small temple at Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple. The Maalikapurathamma Temple is visited after the main Ayyappa Temple. Malikapurathamma Temple is in front of ''Manimandapam'' in the temple complex. Legend Maalikapurathamma is said to be the daughter of Cheerappanchira Panicker who taught Kalaripayattu to Ayyappa.
