Sunt O Babă Comunistă
''Sunt o babă comunistă'' () is a 2013 Romanian drama film directed by Stere Gulea. It stars Luminița Gheorghiu, , and Ana Ularu. Set in 2010 post-communist Romania, the title character and her husband are visited by their daughter who has been living in the United States for the last 10 years. This prompts her to reflect on the changes that have taken place during Romania since the fall of Communism. The film is cut with flashbacks to her halcyon communist days whilst she tries to fix her daughters' money problems. The film is based on a novel with the same title by Dan Lungu. It was largely shot in Călărași and around the ruins of the Călărași steel works. Gabriel Spahiu (; born 21 March 1968) is a Romanian actor. He appeared in more than eighty films since 1998. Born in Bucharest, he graduated from the city's Saint Sava High School in 1986. Securitate
The Department of State Security (), commonly known as the Securitate (, ), was the secret police agency of the Socialist Republic of Romania. It was founded on 30 August 1948 from the '' Siguranța'' with help and direction from the Soviet MGB. Miliția (Romania)
The was the police force of the Socialist Republic of Romania. Establishment and structure The was established by decree in January 1949; the decree simultaneously disbanded the Romanian Police and Gendarmerie, considered “bourgeois” institutions. It was part of the Interior Ministry and directly controlled by the ruling Romanian Workers’ Party. Its employees held military rank. Stere Gulea (born 2 August 1943) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. He was born in Mihail Kogălniceanu commune, Constanța County, in an Aromanian family that had fled from the Kaliakra region of Southern Dobruja during the 1940 population exchange between Bulgaria and Romania. After graduating from the Mircea cel Bătrân High School in Constanța, Gulea studied philology at the Pedagogical Institute of Constanța and then pursued his studies at the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC) in Bucharest, graduating in 1970.
