A student publication is a media outlet such as a newspaper, magazine, television show, or radio station Graduate student journal, produced by students at an educational institution. These publications typically cover local and school-related news, but they may also report on national or international news as well. Most student publications are either part of a curricular class or run as an extracurricular activity. Student publications serve as both a platform for community discussion and a place for those interested in journalism to develop their skills. These publications report news, publish opinions of students and faculty, and may run advertisements catered to the student body. Besides these purposes, student publications also serve as a watchdog to uncover problems at the respective institution. ''The Varsity'' is the official student newspaper of the University of Toronto, in publication since 1880. Originally a broadsheet daily, it is now printed in compact form. The paper's primary focus is on tri-campus affairs and local news. Dublin City University (abbreviated as DCU) () is a Third-level education in the Republic of Ireland, university based on the Northside, Dublin, Northside of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Created as the ''National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin'' in 1975, it enrolled its first students in 1980, and was elevated to university status (along with the NIHE Limerick, now the University of Limerick) in September 1989 by Act of the Oireachtas, statute. ''The College View'' is Dublin City University’s independent student newspaper, run voluntarily by students affiliated to DCU's Media Production Society. The newspaper was first published in 1999 after changing its name from ''The Bullsheet'', its predecessor. The College View has seven sections – News, Opinions and Features, Irish & Lang, Satire & Cartoons, Sports, Lifestyle and The HYPE (Arts). The sections cover everything from DCU student issues to national student issues, humour and satire to life through the eyes of students, as well as extensive sports coverage and analysis. ''The University Times'' (often abbreviated as ''UT'' or ''the UT'') is a student newspaper. Published from Trinity College Dublin, it is financially supported by Trinity College Dublin Students' Union but maintains a mutually agreed policy of editorial independence. In 2017, it won the award for best all-around non-daily student newspaper in the world, as judged by the US-based Society of Professional Journalists. In 2015, the newspaper's website had over one million unique readers for the first time. ''Trinity News'' is Ireland's oldest student newspaper, published from Trinity College Dublin. It is an independent newspaper, funded by Trinity Publications, which reports on the news and views of the students and staff of Dublin University, and the broader Irish higher education sector. The newspaper was first published in 1953 and is using this date as the first volume that the volume numbers are currently derived. Published every three weeks, the current sections are News, Features, Comment, SciTech, and Sport, as well as a ‘Life’, a supplement on Dublin student life. College Tribune
The ''College Tribune'' is a student newspaper which serves Ireland's largest third level institution, University College Dublin. It was established in 1989 with the assistance of journalist and broadcaster Vincent Browne who was attending the university as an evening student at the time. Browne noted the campus' lack of a news outlet which was independent of both the university and University College Dublin Students' Union and alongside founding editor Eamon Dillon set up the ''Tribune'' to correct this. Initially, a close working relationship was maintained between the ''Tribune'' and the ''Sunday Tribune'' which was at the time edited by Browne. This relationship afforded the paper the use of professional production facilities in its fledgling years. Ultimately however, the student newspaper would outlast its national weekly counterpart with the Sunday Tribune having ceased publication in 2011.
