Straßenbahn München
The Munich tramway () is the tramway network for the city of Munich in Germany. Today it is operated by the municipally owned Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (the Munich Transport Company, or MVG) and is known officially and colloquially as the ''Tram''. Previous operators have included ''Société Anonyme des Tramways de Munich'', the ''Münchner Trambahn-Aktiengesellschaft'', the ''Städtische Straßenbahnen'' and the ''Straßenbahn München''. The tram network interconnects with the MVG's bus network, the Munich U-Bahn and the Munich S-Bahn, all of which use a common tariff as part of the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (Munich Transport and Tariff Association, or MVV) transit area. As of 2012, the daytime tram network comprises 13 lines and is long with 165 stops. There is also a night tram service with four routes. The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and officially branded as Munich 1972 (; ), were an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. Avenio
The Siemens Avenio is a low floor tram family produced by Siemens Mobility, a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Siemens. It is the successor to the Combino family. The first generation was sold as the Combino Supra , Combino MkII, or Combino Plus. With the introduction of the second generation in 2009 the Combino brand was dropped and Siemens have referred to Combino Plus trams in Almada (Portugal) and Budapest (Hungary) as part of the Avenio range. ADtranz Low Floor Tram
The ADtranz low floor tram was introduced in the 1990s as the world's first tram with a completely low floor design. This tram was developed by MAN for the Bremen urban transport system. The prototype, tram number 3801, was first publicly introduced on 9 February 1990. From 1991 to 1993, it was being tested in many European cities. Ten German cities have purchased this type. Adtranz took over the rail division of MAN in 1990. Adtranz was a multi-national rail transportation equipment manufacturer with facilities concentrated in Europe and the US. The company, legally known as ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation, was created in 1996 as a joint venture between ABB and Daimler-Benz to combine their rail equipment manufacturing operations. Munich-Berg am Laim station is a stop on the Munich S-Bahn in the district of Berg am Laim in the Bavarian state capital of Munich. Max-Weber-Platz is a Munich U-Bahn interchange station on the U4 and U5 lines in the borough of Haidhausen. The station is located under Max-Weber-Platz, just east of the Landtag of Bavaria. Munich-Pasing is a railway station in the west of Munich. It is the third-largest station in the city, after München Hauptbahnhof and München Ost. History When the first Munich railway was built from Munich to Lochhausen on the western outskirts of Munich in 1839, a station with two wooden huts was built in the municipality of Pasing. The Stadler Variobahn (formerly sold as the ABB Variotram, Adtranz Variotram and Bombardier Variotram) is a German-designed model of articulated low-floor tram and light rail vehicle. Munich Class S Tram
The class S tram is an articulated electric motor tram built by Stadler Rail for use on the Munich tramway. The units were built off Stadler's Variobahn design and are operated by MVG. The five-section 100% low-floor trams have a total length of . The first delivered S-car, number 2301, was used for the first time in Munich on 19 March 2009 for a press tour.
