Hugh Miller
Hugh Miller (10 October 1802 – 23/24 December 1856) was a Scottish geologist, writer and folklorist. Life and work Miller was born in Cromarty, the first of three children of Harriet Wright (''bap''. 1780, ''d''. 1863) and Hugh Miller (''bap''. 1754, ''d''. 1807), a shipmaster in the coasting trade. Both parents were from trading and artisan families in Cromarty. His father died in a shipwreck in 1807, and he was brought up by his mother and uncles. He was educated in a parish school where he reportedly showed a love of reading. It was at this school that Miller was involved in an altercation with an Afro-Caribbean classmate in which he stabbed his thigh. Miller was subsequently expelled from the school following an unrelated incident. At 17 he was apprenticed to a stonemason, and his work in quarries, together with walks along the local shoreline, led him to the study of geology. John Searles is an American writer and book critic. He is the author of four novels: ''Her Last Affair'' (), ''Help For The Haunted'' (), ''Strange But True'' () and ''Boy Still Missing'' (). His essays have appeared in national magazines and newspapers, and he contributes frequently to morning television shows as a book critic. He is based in New York City. Life Born and raised in New England, Searles is the son of a truck driver and stay-at-home mother. After high school, Searles worked at the DuPont factory close to his hometown of Monroe, Connecticut. He went on to pursue an undergraduate degree from Southern Connecticut State University, becoming the first member of his family to attend college, before entering a graduate program at New York University on a writing scholarship, where he won a number of fiction awards and received a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. Times Two was an American male musical duo composed of vocalists and keyboardists Shanti Jones and Johnny Dollar, both from Point Reyes, California. They wrote most of their own material and either produced or co-produced it as well. History They debuted in 1988 with their Warner Bros./Reprise album ''X2'', which reached No. 137 on the Billboard 200. In the U.S., their biggest hit was "Strange But True," which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. That year, Debbie Gibson's manager, Douglas Breitbart, signed Times Two as the opening act for her Out of the Blue Tour.
