Stephen Mitchell (British Politician)
Stephen Mitchell (10 March 1884 – 7 June 1951) was a Scotland, Scottish Unionist Party (Scotland), Unionist politician who sought change through unity. Educated at Loretto School and Jesus College, Cambridge, he served as a Major with the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, including service in World War I. He was a Director of Imperial Tobacco. Mitchell was Unionist Party (Scotland), Unionist Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Lanark (UK Parliament constituency), Lanark from 1924 until 1929. Mitchell also was a Member of the Royal Company of Archers and was High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1945–1946. References External links

Sir Stephen George Mitchell (born 19 September 1941), styled The Hon. Mr Justice Mitchell, is a former judge of the High Court of England and Wales assigned to the Queen's Bench Division. Biography Mitchell was born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, the son of Sydney Mitchell and Joan Dick. He was educated at Bedford School and at Hertford College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1964 and became a member of the Middle Temple. Stephen Mitchell (born 1943) is a poet, translator, scholar, and anthologist. Born in Brooklyn, Mitchell is known for his translations and adaptions of works including the ''Tao Te Ching'', the Hebrew Bible's book of Psalms, the ''Epic of Gilgamesh'', works of Rainer Maria Rilke, and some Christian texts. Education Stephen Mitchell was born to a Jewish family, educated at Poly Prep, Amherst College, the University of Paris, and Yale University, and "de-educated" through intensive Zen practice. Stephen Mitchell (26 May 1948 – 30 January 2024) was a British historian and epigrapher, specialising in Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine Anatolia. He was a professor at Swansea and Exeter University. Background Stephen Mitchell was the son of David Mitchell, a tutor of philosophy at Worcester College, Oxford, and Barbara Mitchell, a tutor of Latin at St Anne's College, Oxford. He studied literae humaniores at St John's College, Oxford from 1966 to 1970 and then undertook a DPhil on ''The History and Archaeology of Galatia'' under the supervision of Ewen Bowie and Eric Gray, which he completed in 1975. Stephen Mitchell (19 September 1789 – 21 April 1874) was a Scottish tobacco manufacturer and philanthropist. He was the founder of the Mitchell Library, in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, one of the earliest public reference libraries in Europe. Succeeding his father in business, Mitchell was Director of Stephen Mitchell & Son for approximately 38 years, and was a significant figure in 19th-century tobacco manufacturing, then one of the largest industries in the West of Scotland. ''Sun Devils'' is a science fiction "space opera" comic book series published by DC Comics for 12 issues between July 1984 and June 1985. Writers Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas and artist Dan Jurgens created the series.
