Standards (Lloyd Cole Album)
''Standards'' is a rock album by English singer, songwriter and musician Lloyd Cole released on 21 June 2013 by Tapete Records. It is Cole's tenth solo album under his own name, although only his second since 1995 to feature a full band of additional musicians. Cole produced the album himself with additional mixing by Olaf Opal and Joerg Siegeler. Background Cole says that he was inspired by the energy and vibrancy of Bob Dylan's album '' Tempest'', which surprised him considering Dylan's age. Cole said: The album is also notable for its emphasis on electric guitar; Cole had established himself as an acoustic and folk musician through his most recent studio releases and touring predominantly as solo performer with an acoustic guitar. Lloyd Cole
Lloyd Cole (born 31 January 1961) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He was lead vocalist of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions from 1984 to 1989 and subsequently worked solo. Early life Cole was born in Buxton, Derbyshire, England. He grew up in nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith and went to New Mills School, New Mills Comprehensive School and later attended Runshaw College in Leyland, Lancashire. He studied a year of law at University College London but switched to the University of Glasgow, where he studied philosophy and English, and also met the future members of the Commotions. Cass Elliot
Ellen Naomi Cohen (September 19, 1941 – July 29, 1974), known professionally as Cass Elliot, was an American singer. She was also known as "Mama Cass", a name she reportedly disliked. Elliot was a member of the singing group the Mamas & the Papas. After the group broke up, she released five solo albums. Elliot received the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary (R&R) Performance for "Monday, Monday" (1967). In 1998, she was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her work with the Mamas & the Papas. Easy Pieces
''Easy Pieces'' is the second studio album by the British rock and pop band Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. It was released on Polydor Records in the UK on 22 November 1985 and included the hit singles " Brand New Friend" (#19 in UK), " Lost Weekend" (#17 in UK) and " Cut Me Down" (#38 in UK). The title of the album derives from the American drama film ''Five Easy Pieces'' (1970), which Cole described as "one of my very favourite films", saying, "I want to write at least five songs out of that film". Following the praise and healthy sales of their debut studio album ''Rattlesnakes'' the previous year, ''Easy Pieces'' became the band's fastest-selling album, selling more in its first two weeks than ''Rattlesnakes'' had managed in a whole year.
