Standard Gravure Shooting
The Standard Gravure shooting occurred on September 14, 1989, in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, when Joseph T. Wesbecker, a 47-year-old Machine press, pressman, killed eight people and injured twelve at his former workplace, Standard Gravure, before committing suicide. The shooting is the deadliest workplace shooting in Kentucky's history. The murders resulted in a high-profile lawsuit against Eli Lilly and Company, manufacturers of the antidepressant drug Fluoxetine, Prozac, which Wesbecker had begun taking during the month prior to his shooting rampage. Background Standard Gravure was a prominent printing company founded in 1922 by Robert Worth Bingham. Reduced revenues led to an employee wage freeze in 1982, and in 1986 the Bingham family sold the company. 1989 Cleveland Elementary School Shooting (Stockton)
The Stockton schoolyard shooting (also known as the Cleveland Elementary School shooting and the Cleveland School massacre) was an act of mass murder which occurred at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California, on January 17, 1989. The perpetrator, 24-year-old Patrick Purdy, shot and killed five children and wounded thirty-one all but one of them before committing suicide with a single pistol shot to the head approximately three minutes after first opening fire. The shooting sparked intense public controversy over the necessity for members of the public to own any model of firearm classified as an assault weapon and ultimately inspired the Roberti–Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989, an act prohibiting the ownership and transfer of over fifty specific brands and models of assault weapons in California. A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when Ischemia, blood flow decreases or stops in one of the coronary arteries of the heart, causing infarction (tissue death) to the heart muscle. A snubnosed revolver (colloquially known as a snubbie, belly gun, or bulldog revolver) is a small, medium, or large frame revolver with a short barrel, generally less than 3 inches in length. Smaller such revolvers are often made with "bobbed" or "shrouded" hammers and there are also "hammerless" models (where the hammer is entirely internal); the point is to allow the gun to be drawn with little risk of it snagging on clothing.
