St Paul's Tram Stop
St Paul's tram stop is a tram stop serving nearby St Paul's Square, Birmingham, England. It was opened on 31 May 1999 on West Midlands Metro Line 1. The stop is a short distance west of Birmingham Snow Hill station, which is visible from the stop. Pedestrian access is via Constitution Hill. The stop sits in the shadow of Livery Street, which, at this point, is on a blue-brick lined embankment, preventing direct access to the square. Livery Street then crosses the tram and railway lines, at a very acute angle, at the Wolverhampton end of the stop. The Birmingham to Worcester railway line runs alongside, but the stop is served only by trams, as there are no railway platforms. The West Midlands Metro is a light-rail/tram system in the county of West Midlands (county), West Midlands, England. St Paul's Square, Birmingham
St Paul's Square (also known as St Pauls Square) is a Georgian square in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, England, named after the church at its centre. It is the last remaining Georgian Square in the city. Built 1777—1779 on the Newhall estate of the Colmore family, it was an elegant and desirable location in the mid-nineteenth century. At the end of the nineteenth century the square was swallowed by workshops and factories, with the fronts of some buildings being pulled down to make shop fronts or factory entrances. Much restoration was done in the 1970s and many of the buildings are Grade II listed. As well as bars, cafés and restaurants – which line the square's four sides – a number of apartment schemes have been built in the area. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is the combined authority for the West Midlands metropolitan county in the United Kingdom. It was established on 17 June 2016 by statutory instrument under the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009. Birmingham Snow Hill, also known as Snow Hill station, is a railway station in Birmingham City Centre. It is one of the Birmingham station group, three main city-centre stations in Birmingham, along with and . Snow Hill was once the main station of the Great Western Railway in Birmingham and, at its height, it rivalled New Street station with competitive services to destinations including , , , Wales and South West England. The station has been rebuilt several times since the first station at Snow Hill, a temporary wooden structure, was opened in 1852; it was rebuilt as a permanent station in 1871 and then rebuilt again on a much grander scale during 1906–1912. Staffordshire Blue Brick
Staffordshire blue brick is a strong type of construction brick, originally made in Staffordshire, England. The brick is made from the local red clay, Etruria marl, which when fired at a high temperature in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere takes on a deep blue colour and attains a very hard surface with high crushing strength and low water absorption. Brickworks were a key industry across the whole Black Country throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, and were considered so important that they were designated as a reserved occupation during World War Two. The Black Country was a major producer of clay for brickmaking, often mined from beneath the 30 foot Staffordshire coal seam. The industry dates back to at least the 17th century, however brickworks really took off in the 19th century. Jewellery Quarter station is a combined railway station and tram stop, situated in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, England. The station is served by West Midlands Trains (who operate the station), Chiltern Railways, and West Midlands Metro. The station is set at the mouth of Hockley No 2 Tunnel below the elevation of its road-level access point on Vyse Street; stairs and a lift are provided. St Chads Tram Stop
St Chads tram stop is a tram stop on the city-centre extension of Line 1 of the West Midlands Metro in the United Kingdom, adjacent to Snow Hill railway station. It opened on 2 June 2016 as part of the extension into Birmingham city centre as a replacement for the previous Snow Hill terminus tram stop. Initially named Snow Hill, it was renamed St Chads in January 2017, taking the name from the nearby St Chad's Cathedral, because on opening the necessary work to allow direct access with Snow Hill railway station had not been completed, and the Snow Hill name was considered confusing for passengers. Bull Street was instead advertised as the principal interchange, its platforms being closer to the main entrance of the rail station.
