St Michael's Chapel, Mqabba
The Chapel of St Michael is a 17th-century Roman Catholic church located in the southern village of Mqabba Mqabba ( mt, L-Imqabba) is a town in the Southern Region of Malta. The church is built adjacent to a 15th-century chapel dedicated to St Basil. History The present church was built 1669 as commemorated in the plaque above the main door. The chapel was mentioned as being visited by the Bishop of Malta Paul Alphéran de Bussan on 26 May 1729. He ordered that the chapel contributes financially towards the construction of the quire of the parish church. In 1858 the confraternity of St Michael was established in this chapel. Chapel Of St Basil, Mqabba
St Basil's Chapel is a Roman Catholic medieval church located in Mqabba, Malta. It is the only church building in Malta dedicated to St Basil the Great. History This chapel was built in 1486 however it was enlarged three times. The present size of the chapel was completed by 1515, commemorated by the inscription of the date on the main painting of the chapel. In 1575 the chapel was visited by inquisitor Pietro Dusina on his apostolic visit to Malta who reported that it was the biggest church in Mqabba and that it had an altar, a main painting and wooden doors. In 1598, the church served as the parish church of Mqabba and was temporary renamed as St Mary's. In 1680 Bishop Miguel Jerónimo de Molina visited the church and commented that the church was important to the local people and that it was the main church of the village. Paul Alphéran De Bussan
Paul Alphéran de Bussan was a French Roman Catholic archbishop who served as Bishop of Malta from 1728 till 1757. Early life Born in Aix-en-Provence, France on 28 October 1686 of noble parentage, Paul Alphéran de Bussan graduated in Bachelor of Theology from the University of Aix in 1705. He soon travelled to Malta and lived with his uncle, Melchior Alpheran de Bussan, a Conventual Chaplain of Obedience of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. His brother Jean-Melchior Alphéran was also a member of the order of St John and became abbot of Sept-Fons Abbey in 1755. The ship on which the 19-year-old Paul was travelling was caught in heavy storms and had to seek shelter in St. Paul's Bay where he came ashore.
