St. Vincent's Home For The Aged
St. Vincent's Home for the Aged in Karachi, Pakistan is a home for older people. St. Vincent’s Home for the Aged is situated off the main Shara-e-Faisal. It is a home for the very poor and destitute. It was inaugurated and blessed by Cardinal Joseph Cordeiro, Archbishop of Karachi on 12 September 1960. It consisted of three separate blocks. Each consisting of six rooms and approximately 35 residents could be accommodated – two or three persons to a room. The Home at that time had no electricity or running water, there were no wash basins and no individual toilets – only common toilets for men and women. The passages were of mud. In the early days the only existing Conference of St. Vincent de Paul’s Society was that of St. Patrick’s Parish and under the leadership of its President, Mr. C.M. Holy Family Hospital, Karachi
Holy Family Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, was founded in 1948 by the Medical Mission Sisters, a Roman Catholic religious order for women based in Philadelphia, USA. This was at a time when very few health care facilities existed in Pakistan. The founder of the Medical Mission Sisters, Doctor Anna Dengel arrived in 1920 in Rawalpindi to work as a mission doctor at the 16-bed St. Catherine's Hospital. The hospital evolved into the Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi and continued to operate under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi until 1977. In that year the diocese was no longer able to bear the financial burden of running the hospital and handed it over to the Government of Punjab. Oswald Bruno Nazareth was a Pakistani high school teacher. Biography Born a Roman Catholic Christian, Nazareth belonged to the Goan community of Pakistan. A keen sportsman, he drafted the constitution of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and was its first Secretary. Simeon Anthony Pereira (19 October 1927, Sukkur, British India - 22 August 2006, Karachi) was a former archbishop of Karachi. Life Pereira was educated at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. He received his religious training at the Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka and was ordained a priest on 24 August 1951. He first worked as secretary to Franciscan Archbishop James Cornelius van Miltenburg of Karachi, and Chaplain to the Sisters and flock at Manora. His next posting was Father-in charge of the Don Bosco Boarding for boys in Karachi. In 1952, he proceeded to Quetta as assistant rector of St. Pius X Minor Seminary. A few years later, he was appointed Parish Priest of Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Old Haji Camp. His next appointment was as Parish Priest of Saint John's Church, Drigh Road, Karachi. Anthony Theodore Felix Lobo (4 July 1937 – 18 February 2013) was a Pakistani Roman Catholic bishop. On 8 June 1982 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Karachi by Pope John Paul II. On 28 May 1993 he became Bishop of Islamabad–Rawalpindi. Biography Lobo was born in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan) on 4 July 1937, to Joseph and Ermina Lobo, Catholics of Goan origin.
