St. Theresa's Church is a Catholic church in Gibraltar. It is located in northeastern Gibraltar, along Devil's Tower Road. Former priests at the church include Bernard Devlin who went on to be the Roman Catholic Bishop of Gibraltar The Latin Bishop of Gibraltar is the ordinary of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar, covering the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, which is exempt, i.e. immediately subject to the Holy See, not part of any ecclesiastical province, .... The Gibraltar government proposed to rename the road which the church is on '' Bishop Devlin Lane'' but the name Devil's Tower Road was retained. Devil's Tower Road
Devil's Tower Road is a road in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The road, in the northeastern part of the settlement, runs south of Gibraltar International Airport, from Winston Churchill Avenue southeast to Eastern Beach Road. It was named after Devil's Tower, a seventeenth-century watchtower that was formerly at the eastern end of the road. By 2011, Devil's Tower Road had been changed to a dual carriageway, with on-street parking eliminated, and the Government's plan to change the name of the road to North Front Avenue met with community opposition. A new access road was planned, such that Winston Churchill Avenue, which crosses the airport runway, would no longer serve as the main road to the Gibraltar-Spain border to intersect with Devil's Tower Road after passing under the eastern edge of the runway. Gibraltar
Gibraltar ( , ) is a British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory and British overseas cities, city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, on the Bay of Gibraltar, near the exit of the Mediterranean Sea into the Atlantic Ocean (Strait of Gibraltar). It has an area of and is Gibraltar–Spain border, bordered to the north by Spain (Campo de Gibraltar). Bernard Patrick Devlin
Bernard Patrick Devlin, KC*HS, CMG, GMH (10 March 1921, Youghal — 15 December 2010, Gibraltar) was an Irish clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as fifth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar from 1985 to 1998. Early life and education Devlin was born in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland, on 10 March 1921, the only son of Richard and Mary (née Hill). His education began in 1927 at the Loreto Convent in Youghal and he later attended the Christian Brothers School in 1933. Devlin finished completed his schooling in 1939 at the Cistercian College in Dublin and concluded his ecclesiastical studies in 1945 at the Pontifical Beda College in Liverpool. Priesthood Devlin was ordained a priest on 9 December 1945 at the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Portsmouth, United Kingdom. He arrived in Gibraltar on 29 June 1946. Roman Catholic Bishop Of Gibraltar
The Latin Bishop of Gibraltar is the ordinary of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar, covering the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, which is exempt, i.e. immediately subject to the Holy See, not part of any ecclesiastical province, nor is it part of any (Spanish or British) episcopal conference. The diocese's episcopal seat (cathedra) is located in the Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned. The diocese also has a National Shrine of Our Lady of Europe. The incumbent, Carmelo Zammit, who was appointed Bishop of Gibraltar on 24 June 2016 and received episcopal ordination on 8 September 2016, was installed there on 24 September 2016.
