The Church of St Mary and St Michael is in the village of Bonds, to the south of Garstang, Lancashire, England. It is an active Roman Catholic church in the diocese of Lancaster. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. History The church replaced an earlier chapel in the town of Garstang, and was built in 1857–58. The church and associated presbytery, schools and schoolmaster's house were designed by the Lancaster architect E. G. Paley. The church had seating for 600 people. The full development cost £7,000 (equivalent to £ in ). The authors of the ''Buildings of England'' series comment that the church is a "big solid job", and that it is "by far the largest and most imposing hurchof the town". St Mary's and St Michael's Church is in the village of Burleydam in the civil parish of Dodcott cum Wilkesley, Cheshire, England. The church is some to the southeast of Combermere Abbey. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Nantwich. Its benefice is combined with those of St Michael, Baddiley, and St Margaret, Wrenbury. History The church was built in 1769 at the expense of the Cottons of Combermere Abbey. This church was cruciform in shape and in 1886 two further transepts, a chancel, a new west wall, a northwestern porch and a bellcote were added. The church was noted by Dr Johnson on his visit to Combermere on 24 July 1774. He describes the church as "neat and plain" with "handsome" communion plate. The Church of St Mary and St Michael, Llanarth, Monmouthshire, was built as the family chapel for Llanarth Court. It was the first Roman Catholic church constructed in the county since the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the mid-16th century. Built circa 1790, some decades before the Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829, it was designed to look like an orangery, or barn, in order not to attract anti-Catholic hostility. It is considered one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Catholic churches in Wales. History Following the Reformation, Monmouthshire, and particularly the north of the county, became an area of significant recusancy. The Joneses of Llanarth Court were an old Catholic family, and had supported a priest at Llanarth since 1781.
