St. John's College, Agra
St. John's College is a constituent college of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, located in Agra. It is a Christian college under the Church of North India. It was established by the Church Mission Society to Agra. The college admits both undergraduates and postgraduates and awards degrees in liberal arts, commerce, sciences, business administration and education under the purview of Agra University. The college was built in honor of John the Apostle, one of the Twelve apostles of Jesus. History St. John's College, Agra, was established in 1850 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) of England, along with Agra C.M.S. Association, and its first principal was Rev. The University of Allahabad is a Central university (India), Central University located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. It was established on 23 September 1887 by an act of Parliament and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance (INI). It is the 4th oldest modern University in India. Shankar Dayal Sharma
Shankar Dayal Sharma (; 19 August 1918 – 26 December 1999) was an Indian lawyer and politician who served as the President of India from 1992 to 1997. Born in Bhopal, Sharma studied at Agra, Allahabad and Lucknow and received a doctorate in constitutional law from the University of Cambridge and was a bar-at-law from Lincoln's Inn and a Brandeis Fellow at Harvard University. During 1948–49, Sharma was one of the leaders of the movement for the merger of Bhopal State with India, a cause for which he served eight months' imprisonment. Arthur Whitcliffe Davies
Arthur Whitcliffe Davies (30 August 1878 – 14 September 1966) was an American-born Anglican priest in the 20th century. He was the son of British businessman Theophilus Harris Davies, founder of Theo H. Davies & Co. Biography Davies was born in Honolulu, where his father was a prominent businessman. He was educated at Uppingham School and University College, Oxford, and ordained in 1908. Between then and 1928 he was a lecturer and then principal of St. John's College, Agra. Returning to England he was General Secretary of the Church Assembly Missionary Council until his appointment in 1934 as Dean of Worcester, a post he held for 15 years. John Barton (missionary)
John Barton (1836–1908) was an English Anglican missionary in India. He served as the founding principal of the Cathedral Mission College in Kolkota in 1865. Early life Born at Eastleigh, Hampshire, on 31 December 1836, he was the sixth child of John Barton (1798–1852) by his wife Fanny, daughter of James Rickman. His background was of Cumberland Quakers, and Bernard Barton was his uncle. His mother died in 1841, and her sister Josephina brought up the family. After schooling at Bishop Waltham and Highgate, Barton matriculated at Christ's College, Cambridge, Michaelmas 1855. He founded the Cambridge University Church Missionary Union, and graduated B.A. in January 1859, M.A. in 1863. He was ordained in September 1860 and sailed in October for Calcutta.
