St. George's School, Brunei
St George's School is a private, Roman Catholic, co-educational school in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei-Muara, Brunei. It was established in 1937. History George Newn Ah Foott was adamant that education might give the many populations in Brunei Town, a brighter future. Newn took the initiative to open Saint George's School after seeing the lack of educational options and schools in the area. Fr. Piet de Wit, a local priest, first established the school in a house on Jalan Padang that Mr. Kay leased. In addition, this home housed the priest's residence and a chapel. Thanks to Newn's donation of land, the school was able to construct its first dedicated structure in Kumbang Pasang in 1941. Following World War II's interruptions, the school was reopened under Newn's leadership, with his daughters acting as instructors. Later, the school was named after him as a sign of respect. The Brunei History Centre (PSB; ) is a government institution which conducts research, documentation, publication and dissemination on matters pertaining to the history of Brunei. It was established in 1982 by the consent of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah as an institute of historical research on Brunei for the benefit of the Bruneian people. Roderick Yong Yin Fatt (; born 6 November 1932) is a retired Bruneian educator and diplomat who made history as the first Bruneian and the seventh Secretary-General of ASEAN, serving from 1986 to 1989. Pengiran Anak Siti Saerah (1928 – 4 November 2013), also referred to as Balabab Besar, was the eldest child and daughter of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin and Kadayang Amas. Steven Chong Wan Oon (; born 1957) is a Brunei magistrate who was appointed chief justice of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam in 2018. Pengiran Umar bin Pengiran Haji Apong (2 February 1940 – 12 May 2023) was a Bruneian diplomat and noble police officer who served as the second commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) from 1984 to 1991.
