St. Anthony's Catholic Church () is a Roman Catholic church in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. History The church building covers an area of , and is located along Nonglin Road, Futian District, Shenzhen. The foundation of the church was laid in April 1998, and the church was completed in December 2001. Building the church took three years and eight months. The design of St. Anthony's Catholic Church aims to symbolize the spirit of Catholicism in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The construction of the church required the efforts of a large number of Catholics. Futian District
Futian District () is one of the nine districts comprising the city of Shenzhen, China. The district is home to the government and Municipal Committee of Shenzhen, as well as the city's central business district (CBD). Name There are two theories concerning the origin of the district's name: * From an inscription dating to the Song Dynasty (960–1297) which reads: "Lakes and mountains are blessed with fertile farmlands" (). * Written records showing that people from Shangsha Village built houses in Songziling in 1192; their farmlands were cultivated in lattice shapes, which in Chinese is a homophone for "Futian" meaning "blessed fields". The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone () is a special economic zone (SEZ) of China. One of four special economic zones (SEZ) established in May 1980, it was the first SEZ created by Deng Xiaoping, and, like the other three zones, was modeled after Ireland's Shannon Free Zone. Until 2010, the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone comprised four of the nine districts of Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province, namely Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, and Yantian, with a total area of 493 km².
