"Space Madness" is the fifth episode of the first season of ''The Ren & Stimpy Show''. It originally aired on Nickelodeon in the United States on September 8, 1991. Along with "Marooned (The Ren & Stimpy Show), Marooned" and "Black Hole (The Ren & Stimpy Show), Black Hole", the episode is part of a loose trilogy in the first season known as the "space episodes", centering around the Story within a story, show-within-the-show, a parody of ''Star Trek''-like science fiction shows titled ''The Adventures of Commander Höek and Cadet Stimpy''. "Space Madness" was received positively by critics, and is considered to be one of the series' best episodes. ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', commonly referred to as simply ''Ren & Stimpy'', is an American animated Comedy film, comedy television series created by John Kricfalusi for Nickelodeon. The series follows the misadventures of Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable and psychotic chihuahua (dog), chihuahua dog; and Stimpy, a good-natured and dimwitted Manx cat. Bob Jaques
Robert Jaques (born 1956) is a Canadian-American animator and animation director. He is best known for the television series ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', ''The Baby Huey Show'' and ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. He also was nominated for two Emmys in 1992 and 1993 for his contributions to ''The Ren & Stimpy Show''. Early life and career Jaques' fascination with animation began by watching the Fleischer ''Popeye'' cartoons as a kid, and he never thought of animating as a profession. He also did some stop motion animations since he was a fan of Ray Harryhausen films. One day, he got sick with mononucleosis and did nothing but watch cartoons. Jaques didn't "draw religiously" like other children his age but he was basically self-taught. Chris Reccardi
Christopher Joseph Reccardi (November 24, 1964 – May 2, 2019) was an American animator, artist, writer, producer, director, and musician. He worked on numerous animated television series, including ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', '' Samurai Jack'', '' The Powerpuff Girls'', and ''Tiny Toon Adventures'', and had directing duties on '' Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!'' and ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. Jim Smith (animator)
James Carl Smith (né Jobb; October 8, 1954 – May 2, 2025) was an American animator and musician. He worked on '' Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures'' with his long-time working partner John Kricfalusi. Smith later briefly worked on ''Tiny Toon Adventures'', and then along with Kricfalusi, Bob Camp and Lynne Naylor he founded Spümcø, where he co-developed ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'' (from which he departed in 1992 alongside Kricfalusi) in 1991 and ''The Ripping Friends'' in 2001. He was notable for remaining faithful to Kricfalusi, having refused to join Games Animation (though he worked on ''The X's'' after its rebranding to Nickelodeon Animation Studio), working with Kricfalusi on his projects amid other work until '' Cans Without Labels'' (2017). Smith composed and played the guitar for the ''Ren & Stimpy'' music theme intro, performing alongside production assistant Scott Huml and co-worker Chris Reccardi. Stimpy's Invention
"Stimpy's Invention" is the twelfth episode and season finale of the first season of ''The Ren & Stimpy Show''. It originally aired on Nickelodeon in the United States on February 23, 1992. It was written by John Kricfalusi and Bob Camp, with Kricfalusi serving as director. In the episode, Stimpy creates a series of absurd and impractical inventions, much to Ren's frustration. When one particularly infuriates Ren, Stimpy mistakenly sees his anger as unhappiness and begins to "fix it" by inventing the Happy Helmet, a psychological control device that forces happiness. During a manic performance of ''Happy Happy Joy Joy'', Ren briefly regains self-control and uses a hammer to destroy the helmet, ultimately confronting Stimpy.
